Earlier this afternoon, Columbus Academy performed its first safety drill of the school year that covered exterior and interior threat conditions.
Students, faculty and staff from all school divisions held in-class discussions about security measures for a variety of scenarios throughout today's training exercise. The main purpose, however, was to understand why these drills are required.
Today's exercise was conducted with the assistance of the Gahanna Police Department, which recommends a training program known as ALICE, an acronym that stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. Faculty reviewed action steps with students for these procedures and will continue to do so as the year progresses.
This notice is being sent so that you know the training this afternoon was a planned drill.
