Dear Southern Door Community
This week was a wonderful celebration of Southern Door as students, staff, families, alumni, and community came together to celebrate homecoming!
Even though a lot has changed in education, some traditions remain and one of those is homecoming. For those of us who grew up here quite a few years ago, dances were Saturday night after a football game in the afternoon—so you can imagine how the outcome of the game or the injuries incurred affected that night’s dance. The halftime featured floats decorated by classes and a performance by the marching band. The pep rally & bonfire were held the night before. It is neat to see how traditions grow and include many activities throughout the week.
From the decorated halls to the special school spirit theme days, from the food drive for Maplewood Pantry to today's pep rally, high school grades competed for the coveted "spirit jug."
Congratulations to the Junior class who won! Our elementary and middle schools also got into the district's homecoming spirit with their own celebrations, including an elementary football game with students vs. staff, and a half-time show! Check it out on Facebook.
Homecoming is also a time when alumni return. Tonight the bonfire is at 6p and game at 7p with introduction of this year's homecoming court and of course, the marching band's half-time show. We learned this week that the
Class of 1968
will kick off their 50th reunion by attending the game.
1960 Homecoming King Pete Birmingham and Queen Pam Miller Birmingham
are also expected to be in the crowd.
We invite you to relive some great memories, rekindle some great friendships, and invoke the community's pride in not only our students' talents, but in honoring the heritage and traditions of Southern Door. As our celebrations head toward a big finale this weekend, let's show our community's EAGLE pride as we continue to support our students in all their academic and co-curricular activities - not just at homecoming but throughout the entire year!
Together We Are Eagle Strong!
