The Message this Week
Preaching Text: John 13:1-17
Washing feet. At his final meal with the disciples in John, Jesus doesn't share communion with bread and wine and the words we hear on Sundays. He starts by washing feet and giving the great commandment to love one another. In between, Judas is identified as the betrayer and leaves into the night and darkness. Love brackets betrayal. What might be some good news for us? Let's explore this weekend.
God of grace, thank you for the example of Jesus, even if it is an example we struggle to follow. Give us the courage to humble ourselves and to love those whom you send us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

- Teach us to humble ourselves for the honorable work of serving others.
- Help us to take action to protect and conserve this life-giving earth, for the good of all creation.
- May we and all those we elect to lead us follow your law in a right spirit, so that all may justly benefit from your blessings, and no one presume themselves to be better than another.
- Pour out the full measure of your healing upon each of us.
- May our path follow those who have gone before us to serve you humbly and faithfully.
Into your hands we place our prayers, spoken and unspoken, and entrust all things to your eternal care. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
We surround with our prayers the family of Steve Hitzemann who passed away Sunday, February 22. There will be a service at Geneva Lutheran this Saturday, February 28 at 11AM, with a visitation preceeding from 9-11AM.

My name is John Augustine. I am blessed and excited to be part of this faith community as your Vicar for the next two years. It has been quite the journey getting to this place. I grew up in Lake in the Hills, IL and went to Carthage College for my undergraduate degree. That is where my faith really blossomed. After college I moved to Durham, North Carolina to get an MA in theology from Duke, originally thinking I was going to go into academia. Once the pandemic hit, I moved back to Illinois and found myself in Wheaton. I live with one of my friends from college. I have a lovely dog Ruby that I rescued 10 years ago. In my free time I love to read and write. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!
