Fall Into a New Rhythm - By Bike

School is back in session, the mornings are getting crisper, and Tahoe’s trails and bike routes are calling. Whether you’re commuting to class, pedaling to work, or soaking up the first signs of fall, it’s a great time to make biking part of your routine.

BackBike to School Quiz

Is it an e-bike or e-moto?

As students bike back to school, make sure they’re riding a legal bike: if the pedals don’t move the bike or it can exceed 28 mph, it’s likely an e-moto. E-motos cannot be ridden by students on public roads, bike paths, or school campuses, and require a motorcycle license, registration, and insurance.

Volunteer with Us

We have several South Shore bike valets coming up, and we need your help! Most of these events include free tickets:

Volunteer Spotlight: Tyler Alves

This summer, Tyler has been helping organize the South Shore bike kitchens. As an avid bike packer and bike commuter, he loves getting around on two wheels, and helping others to do the same.

"My favorite part of volunteering with the bike kitchen is helping someone with a bike that is completely unrideable. A few tweaks and fixes later they roll out with joy and gratitude that makes my day," says Tyler.

Reminder: Ride with the Flow

Bikes and scooters must travel in the same direction as cars. Why?

  • It's the law: California and Nevada both require bikes and scooters to follow the same rules as vehicles, including riding with traffic, on the right side of the road.

  • Helps avoid blind spots: At driveways and intersections, drivers typically scan in one direction. Riding with traffic ensures drivers see you before turning.

  • Reduces the likelihood and severity of crashes: Riding with traffic gives drivers more time to see you, making crashes less likely and any impact far less severe.
