Meet Carole Houde...

What inspired you to begin your yoga journey?
Fitness has been part of my life for 30 years.  It was always go hard, fast and work through those aches and pains. In 2003, I experienced my first yoga and Pilates classes.  I really liked the feeling of working my body physically without pain and noticed that other people in the classes were going through the same Ah..Ha! moment as I was.

How do you plan to Reach Beyond in the upcoming year?
I am very excited to help launch the Beyond Yoga Teacher Training Program and assisting this fall with Yoga Tune Up® training and then leading our team in our first YTT 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in January. Read  more...
What's on your playlist?
They say I am a child of the seventies.  I remember all the words to ABBA, Queen, Supertramp, BTO and of course Donna Summers.  You may see me occasionally sneak a song in to my Yoga Tune Up® playlist (remember Dust in the Wind??).  My Yoga playlist is varied.   I enjoy Girish, Snatam Kaur, Buddha Bar, Yoga One and Ed Sheeran and on the more quiet side Parijat, Steve Gold and Deuter.

Why do we set intentions in our yoga classes?
When you attend a yoga class, the teacher will often invite you to set an intention for your practice and you wonder what that means. "My intention is to get through this yoga class"...right?  And so you've just done it, set your first intention but it could be a little more than that. Let's explore the meaning of an intention and why we may want to set intentions in our daily life.
What is an intention?
An intention is simply looking inward and asking ourselves "At this moment in time what do I most want from my practice and my life?" and then creating, living and breathing that intention on your mat.

So next practice, take a moment, quiet your mind, breathe, focus on just that moment, then set your intention and remind yourself of the values that matter most in your life.

flipflips-header.jpg Summer Foot Recovery
Over the past few months, many of us have been sporting sandals and flip flops on our feet. As easy as this foot wear is to get on and off, it does cause tightening of our calf and plantar (foot) fascia due to the lack of support this summer footwear does not provide. You may be surprised at how tight your calves and feet have tightened up without even realizing it!

To help unwind some of this tension I encourage therapy ball work on the bottom of your feet and into your calves and shins. Even for just 5 minutes at the end of your day, adding compression on the bottom of your foot by standing on a therapy ball and rolling it back and forth and up and down can help release some of this tension. This tension on the fascia can often lead to plantar fasciitis which will become more apparent when the weather cools down and the fascia tightens up even more. Ask your massage therapist for more preventative/recovery techniques that you can do at home to help undo your summer footwear damage!

Yours in health,

Erin Watt, RMT
