She allows the paints to blend together in ways that are sometimes unpredictable which adds to the charm of each piece. Meet the artist and see her in-action on this fun evening, May 31st from 5 to 9. Enjoy wine & small bites at indigenous along with music & festivities in East Walnut Hills business district.

10th &   f i n a l  artTILE exhibit
showing through June 16
artTILE 2019 is our TENTH & FINAL annual invitational exhibit featuring 30 exceptional artists specially selected to display a wide range of designs, sizes, prices, and tile-making techniques offering a collection with great scope and depth. Hand-built, carved, pressed, stamped, molded, painted and one-of-a-kind art tiles are on view. Styles range from whimsical and contemporary to the traditional aesthetics inherent to the arts and crafts movement. Tile imagery is also diverse ~ from beautiful nature inspired motifs to thoughtfully rendered architectural landmarks to modern abstract graphics and beyond. Several of our exhibitors are pushing the
artTILE exhibit concept of "a slab of clay, endless possibilities" so be sure to see the new creations.

SEVEN new artists are joining us along with a number of makers who have not shown at indigenous for years so the collection will offer something wonderful for everyone. Enjoy the eclectic offerings along with new design directions from your favorite, established tile artists in this final group show. London Bellman
Exhibiting for the first time at indigenous is London Bellman. He has added his unique, modern, textured and colorful designs to our eclectic collection of handmade tiles for our final group show.

"Twenty five years of tattooing and a lifetime of art endeavors has brought me to this stage in my career. I have been fine tuning my focus stylistically. Nature has always been something I love and a great source of inspiration. I can wander down a beach or river all day looking for reference in rocks and driftwood. The details in everyday objects are overlooked in our busy lives. I am constantly awed by the magic hidden in life's tiny mysteries. Twigs, rocks, insects, driftwood, weathered beach detritus, landscapes and bio-organic imagery are where my focus currently resides."   ~London Bellman

Joining us for the first time in our artTILE exhibit is Dana Higby. Dana's tile imagery ranges from classic, serene landscapes to Art Nouveau-inspired florals and includes a series of Celtic knots with a few Gryphon and dragons thrown in too! Find her collection among the hundreds and hundreds of handmade tiles in this grand finale group show.

"You can usually find me in the back country in the great state of Idaho. It is in the mountains and forests that I find the inspiration for my work. I strive to present a new way to add not only handcrafted works of art to the homes across the country, but a unique way to add the serenity of Mother Nature to their space. Being a self taught artist, I've used the last six years to hone my skills and technique. As an artist, I continue to push myself and the medium that I have chosen to express the wonder and beauty that I find among the pine trees. I feel very passionate that even with the hustle and bustle of the crazy urban life that so many of us live in, we can surround ourselves with pieces that bring some peace into our crazy lives. My hope is that the pieces that I craft will do that for you."    ~ Dana Higby

NOW through June 16th!

"I am having oh-so-much fun with this new line of sculptural tiles. I feel like life in general can get heavy, hard and sometimes just no fun. I am trying to keep my work just the opposite...I want to make art that is light, happy, easy to look at and makes you smile. My animal tiles are often inspired by the ones living around me on our little farm out here in the country. My wall tiles are made of terracotta clay, bisque fired and washed with acrylics. I hand build each piece and layer slabs and manipulate the surface to create a 3D fun loving critter. I enjoy playing with textures and adding an element of whimsy to each piece." ~Candace

Enjoy a lovely collection of their classically designed red clay tiles. Nature is their inspiration and they showcase it in an old-world style in an earthy, natural color glaze palette. Tiles are ready to show as individual art pieces or any size installation project. Anders and Eileen have backgrounds and training in art, design, ceramics and sculpture and have worked in architectural tile since 1980. Various techniques are employed including extrusion, press forming and direct modeling. Their series of fruits and veggies tiles are perfect for kitchen and dining room installations.

"Hi, I'm Terri Goodwin. I've had a life long desire to produce something beautiful with my own hands. Whether it is a gift for a friend, an art show or something for my own home, I'm driven to create artwork that inspires happiness and joy.
After earning a BA in Design from UCLA I spent my early career as a graphic designer for small companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle. In 1999, an interest in mosaic led to the desire to make my own ceramic tile. Making my ideas come to life with clay set me on a new path of creativity and experimentation. I also discovered that embedding my tiles into concrete was an ideal way to show off their interesting shapes and bright glazes. In addition to being durable, concrete is an amazingly versatile medium in and of itself. I continue to experiment with unique ways to mold, carve, color and polish it."

Featured in our 10th & final group tile exhibit are the beautiful tile works of
Marina Bosetti. Find a myriad of lush florals, cardinals, birds, elephants, and more - now through June 16th.

"I am influenced by the Art Nouveau movement, I love the idea of uniting organic and geometric forms into designs that flow and follow the spirit of Art Nouveau to bring beauty to every day. Using the ancient technique of cuerda seca - a cloisonné-inspired method that mimics the look of mosaic - each tile's intensely rich ceramic glaze looks so soft it begs to be touched. I graduated from Pratt Institute in1982 with a BFA in sculpture, I have spent my life devoted to clay. Over the years there has been a progression from sculpting to pottery to art tile and back again. Throughout it all, I have consistently worked to distill the abstract, sensual, and spiritual aspects of life into accessible design, image, and easy-to-care-for, durable artwork." ~ Marina

Wendy Anderson is always keeping it fresh, showing a totally new direction in our 10th & final artTILE exhibit. This year she is exhibiting a cool collection of tile trays, pushing our show concept of "a slab of clay, endless possibilities" with her functional tile-like serving pieces. Each is a unique statement piece and fully functional!

"I have a deep love of story telling and my work has always had a strong decorative and narrative element. Creating a ceramic form is often just the starting point for me. I have always painted images and designs, or incorporated three dimensional figures and animals into my bowls, mugs, dishes, tiles and platters. The blank interior of a large bowl is like a lovely curved canvas for me, just waiting for imagery, story, and perhaps even words. I often begin my bowls and sculptures with a person, a dream, or a memory in mind. The painting evolves as I work in my studio into something more universal that will not only decorate a form, but will also welcome the future owner of the piece into a world of color, imagination, and celebration." ~ Wendy

We seem to have quite a few dynamic duos creating works for our artTILE exhibit and Soozee Van Dyke Woods & Tracy Chamberlain are two of the favorites. Their tile designs are definitely why some of our buyers return for the show every year - charming, sweet, clever & colorful imagery that always makes you smile.

"Ramona Paloma Tile are two friends making high-fired ceramic art tile. We laugh a lot, take daily inspiring walks with our dogs and love the adventure of working with clay. We make one tile at time. Each piece is beautifully imperfect and one-of-a-kind. We embrace the notion of seeing "the hand in the work"-our tiles wear this philosophy with enthusiasm.

As if twins separated at birth, Tracy and Soozee have seemed to live parallel lives. Their histories have criss-crossed each others' since they were children. The coincidences are remarkable. When they actually met for the first time during a water aerobics class in 1998, the inevitable kinship was decreed - sisters and Tile Twins! Humor, combined with a Nordic kindred spirit and an appreciation for the little things in life, ignites the whimsy and creativity that is Ramona Paloma. Each tile is a mini-piece of art: placed on a mantle, used as a trivet, given to a friend."   ~Soozee & Tracy
