A weekly e-newsletter from JFS of Middlesex County

JFS is a non-profit social services agency serving all members of the community from all backgrounds. Your generous support enables us to provide crucial programs for those in need.

Together We Give

Giving Tuesday is a global phenomenon that encourages people all over the world to give to nonprofits to help those in need.

When you donate to JFS, 95 cents of every dollar goes directly to critical programs helping the most vulnerable right here in our community.

JFS Kosher Food Pantries distributed 3,500 bags of food to local families during 2021. The number of families visiting JFS Kosher Food Pantries has increased dramatically for 2022 with 2,745 bags of food given out in the first six months of this year, a 57% increase.

One of the ways JFS is addressing this spike in food insecurity is with our new mobile food pantry, JFS On the Road. Thanks to your generosity and a Community Development Block Grant from Middlesex County, JFS has a new van to reach more families in need in our community. Now we need your help to keep it stocked!

Without your monetary donations and food collections, the JFS Kosher Food Pantries would not be able to support all of the local families coming to us for help, a number that continues to grow each month.

JFS also feeds hundreds of local seniors in our Lunch with Friends (daily and monthly congregate meal programs throughout the county) and Kosher Meals on Wheels (meals delivered to homebound seniors) programs.

On this Giving Tuesday, please donate to JFS to feed those in need in our community: www.jfsmiddlesex.org/donate-form. For more information and other ways to donate, please call 732-777-1940 or email office@jfsmiddlesex.org. Thank you for your support!

Give to Support Holocaust Survivors

Pictured above, Sol Lurie was a young boy when the Nazis invaded Lithuania. A survivor of multiple concentration camps, Sol made it to the United States and fell in love with his new country. He eagerly enlisted in the military during the Korean War, but because of language skills developed while imprisoned at Buchenwald, he was sent as a peacekeeper to Germany.

A participant in the JFS Holocaust Survivor Program and Kosher Meals on Wheels, Sol is one of our many role models, an American veteran with an unrelenting spirit and passion for serving his community.

This Giving Tuesday remember our nearly 200 Holocaust Survivors who need homecare, meals, transportation, and more to remain safe and comfortable at home aging in place with dignity.

Give Time Serving the Community

There are many ways to volunteer with JFS and help is always needed! You can drive Holocaust survivors to their monthly socialization program, help stock our Kosher Food Pantries, and even distribute bags of food at community events. Opportunities abound in nearly every program: Career and Women’s Centers, Senior Nutrition, Citizenship, Telephone Reassurance, Senior Medicare Patrol and more.

Volunteers in our Lunch with Friends program perform a wide range of duties for the seniors in our community from setting tables to serving lunch to leading activities. Drivers are needed for our Kosher Meals on Wheels program that provides 40,000 meals each year to homebound seniors.

Volunteers also help out in JFS Citizenship programs, tutoring citizenship students in civics and English, conducting mock interviews and contacting students for updates.

Get your kids or students involved as well! They can organize food and toiletry drives, prepare cards or gifts for local seniors, or collect school supplies and toys for our annual give-away events. Your children will see first-hand how volunteering with JFS directly helps families in need in their community.

For more information on how to get involved, please email JFS today at office@jfsmiddlesex.org. Thank you!
