International Women's Day - EACH FOR EQUAL
March 8th is International Women's Day, and the theme is Each For Equal . An equal world is an enabled world, and all of us have the power to challenge assumptions and biases, dismantle discrimination, and celebrate the achievements of ALL WOMEN.

There are some exciting events in the community this month celebrating International Women's Day. Take a look at the upcoming events section below for more information!
Youth Philanthropy
Two students from Glenlyon Norfolk School , Sasha and Joelle, put on a fundraiser for the Victoria Women's Transition House in February. They spent hours making origami, crocheted items, bath bombs and baked goods to sell to the public. Their efforts were part of a class project and were inspired by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Sasha and Joelle didn't expect to raise so much money, but their homemade items were very popular! Thank you so much for supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence, and for working towards a brighter future for all.
SHINE: Girl's Group Counselling
SHINE: Girls Group Counselling is a transformative, 10-week group counselling program tailored to the needs of teenage and pre-teenage girls who have witnessed domestic violence and abuse in the home.

Each session is led by a professional Victoria Women's Transition House counsellor and focuses on a different topic, such as building self-esteem; the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships; strengthening boundaries and assertiveness; coping skills to manage stress and anxiety; understanding abuse; and building confidence, trust, friendships and self-expression. This Group also includes activities to help girls work through trauma and express themselves through art projects, journaling, drama and other creative activities. If you are interested in accessing this group for your child, please contact 250-592-2927.

SHINE: Girls Group Counselling is supported by the Shoppers Drug Mart Life Foundation and individual donors.

Join in a fun evening of socializing and creating delicious soups in support of VWTH. Events are social evenings with lively conversation, chopping, laughter and warm kitchen camaraderie that culminate in a simple, sit-down supper of soup, salad, bread and wine for all participants. Each event produces approximately 150-250 servings of fresh soup that is delivered later the same evening to our Emergency Shelter. These deliveries supply our clients with nourishing and nurturing soup each month. Below is a recent quote from one of our clients who arrived at our Emergency Shelter late at night:

I just want to thank you for what you’re doing. It was my first night at the Victoria Women’s Transition House and I didn’t really know what to eat. I had your soup and it was just what I needed. So delicious and healthy. It reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. Really made me feel better and settled me. So thank you.”
