Arbor Day 2023 is Friday, April 28th
“Other holidays repose upon the past;
Arbor Day proposes for the future.”
–J. Sterling Morton.
Arbor Day, much like Earth Day, is a holiday that celebrates nature. Its purpose is to encourage people to plant trees, and many communities traditionally take the opportunity to organize tree-planting and litter-collecting events on or around the holiday.
What does he plant who plants a tree?
He plants cool shade and tender rain,
And seed and bud of days to be,
And years that fade and flush again;
He plants the glory of the plain;
He plants the forest’s heritage;
The harvest of a coming age;
The joy that unborn eyes shall see—
These things he plants who plants a tree.
–Excerpt from The Heart of the Tree by Henry Cuyler Bunner (1855-1896)
A popular Arbor Day tradition is to plant a tree in honor or memory of a loved one.

Large Trees in Texas - Word Search
Jigsaw Puzzles for Challenging Fun
Challenge Yourself with Wordle
Wordle is a web-based word game developed by Josh Wardle. A player has six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Feedback is given for each guess, in the form of colored tiles, indicating when letters match or occupy the correct position.
Every day, it's a new five-letter word. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray.
- Green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position.
- Yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position.
- Gray indicates it is not in the answer at all.
Target words may have duplicate letters, such as the "o" in "robot", and the color-coded responses do not clue the player about additional uses of such duplicated letters. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses.
The game also has a dark theme as well as a high-contrast theme for colorblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

Servings: 4-8
Ingredients
For the salad:
- 1 (15-ounce) can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15-ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped (about 3/4 cup), soaked in water to take the edge off the onion
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
- 1 cup loosely packed, fresh, finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
- 1 teaspoon fresh finely chopped rosemary
For the dressing:
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (more or less to taste)
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix the 3 different types of beans, the celery, onion (drained of soaking water), parsley, and rosemary.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add the dressing to the beans. Toss to coat.
Transfer the salad to the refrigerator for several hours, to allow the beans to soak up the flavor of the dressing.

Annual membership for Plano residents is $15 and $25 for non-residents. Membership to SJC can only be used at SJC. Adults 50 years of age and older may use their general Plano recreation center membership at SJC. Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, Prime, and Renew Active memberships are accepted at City of Plano recreation centers.
Opportunity for Non-Members (Who are 50+ Years Old)
SJC has added a daily drop-in fee for those who do not have a membership:
- $2 for Plano residents
- $3 for Non-residents
If you have a membership this does not pertain to you. If an Adult 50+ without a membership would like to enjoy the facility, too, they can now for the above fee. They will be required to pay this fee each day they come until they purchase a membership. The daily drop-in fee does not count towards an individual's membership fee unless they pay the daily drop-in fee on the same day they purchase a membership - then the two or three-dollar fee they paid that same day can be applied towards their membership fee.
