Dear Daniels Customer Welcome back. Well, we're optimistic that you've returned for another episode of, This Just In... Our monthly e-newsletter is designed to bring a smile to your face and maybe provide a few minutes of escape once a month. We made it to September. It seems somehow that life flicks a switch in September. Sure, we can still have the occasional wicked hot day or two, but something about the calendar page saying, September, and we're looking to put the flip-flops away, stash the suntan lotion and start listening for the sounds of the school bus and the 'return to normalcy' -whatever that is. Of course, we also get to look forward to a canopy of blazing colors later in the month, those fabulously cool - open window- nights of sleeping and the first weeks of the NFL and the last weeks of a pennant race. (We hope!) Surely, there's more to September than that. We'd love to know what you like best about this month. Tell us and we'll select one or two and send along a surprise. Until then...This Just In...

New York City - The 51st State
Do you remember when Jimmy Breslin and Norman Mailer ran for mayor of New York City and promised to do whatever it took to make the city the fifty-first state? (OK, we are a bit older than the average bear, so if you don't know about this - Google it.)
Anyway, we always thought it was a cool idea. And now that we have seen what a 51 star American flag would look like...whoa! We wonder, would they take Fairfield County with them?

C'mon - no one believes us when we say that the Energy Kinetics System 2000 will save you 40% on your oil bill, right? I mean, it's impossible, right?
Wrong.
Actually the system is amazing and we have some numbers to prove it. Okay, it is for one local family - but we think their experience will pretty much be what you can expect.
We sold a long time Daniels customer in Portland a new System 2000 oil boiler in the spring of 2008. Prior to 2008 this is how much oil they used each heating season:
2002-3 1044 gallons 2203-4 858 2004-5 903 2005-6 753 2006-7 910 2007-8 1000
Then boom -- in went the System 2000
2008-09 483
2009-10 435 2010-11 442 2011-12 317 2012-13 379 2013-14 473
Honest.
Now yes there were some years where the season wasn't as cold - 2005-06 and 2011-12, but it is pretty clear that they cut their oil use - dramatically.
Let us show you how you can save up to 40% on your home heating costs with a new Energy Kinetics System 2000
Save up to $1250 during our September Savings Month!

Just A Thought
We hope you don't mind, but we love Mark Twain. He had so many quotes that we'd love to share, like, "A man who picks up a cat by the tail, learns a lesson he can learn no other way." And then, there is this: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. |

Next Time You Taste Honey...
|
The Gurange tribes of Nepal have been collecting honey from Himalayan cliffs for centuries. The Gurung are master honey hunters, risking their lives collecting honeycomb using nothing more than handmade rope ladders and long sticks known as tangos.
Most of the honey bees' nests are located on steep, inaccessible, southwest facing cliffs to avoid predators and for increased exposure to direct sunlight. Aside from the dangers of falling, they are harvesting honey from the largest honey bees in the world. The Himalayan honey bee can grow up to 3 cm in length.
Before a hunt can commence, the honey hunters are required to perform a ceremony to placate the cliff gods. This involves sacrificing a sheep, offering flowers, fruits and rice, and praying to the cliff gods to ensure a safe hunt. Photographer Andrew Newey spent two weeks living with the Gurung in central Nepal, documenting the risks and skill involved in this dying tradition. From: The Guardian

Grocery Shopping Today?
|
Maybe a little drawing as a reminder of what you need to pick up. Worked for one famous Italian who didn't have time to go to the store himself. Michelangelo illustrated his grocery shopping list (tortellini, anchovies, wine, fennel soup) so his illiterate servant could read it at the market.

Floating Above Paris Imagine picking up a fashion magazine in 1963 and seeing a woman floating over the Seine in Paris. Or over the roof tops. If you've never seen these...well...now you have. They are the work of Melvin Sokolsky.
Born in New York City in 1933, Sokolsky was raised on the Lower East Side. He had no formal training in photography, but started to use his father's box camera at about the age of ten.
Though he is best known for his editorial fashion photographs for publications such as Harper's Bazaar (for which he produced, in 1963, the "Bubble" series of photographs depicting fashion models "floating" in giant clear plastic bubbles suspended in midair above the River Seine in Paris), Vogue, and The New York Times, Sokolsky's work is not limited to that field.
Three quarters of his print photography has been for advertising, which does not usually carry a byline. As Sokolsky said in an interview: "I resented the attitude that 'This is editorial and this is advertising'. I always felt, why dilute it? Why not always go for the full shot?" Toward the end of the 1960s, Sokolsky worked as both commercial director and cameraman. |
