Arrrggghhhh.

Summer is racing by. We need to grab hold of it and squeeze every warm, sand-covered, bbq-flavored, walk in the woods tasty moment left.

That is what August is for! Go for it. See you in September when we have to wear long pants again.

Da Fork

Daniels Energy Special Customer Savings News August 2021

The word fork comes from the Latin 'furca' for "pitch fork." The two-prong twig was perhaps the first fork. In Egyptian antiquity, large forks made of bronze were used at religious ceremonies to lift sacrificial offerings.

One of the earliest dinner forks is attributed to Constantinople in 400 A.D.; it can be seen in the Dumbarton Oaks collection in Washington, D.C. By the seventh century, small forks were used at Middle Eastern courts; one such fork, a small, gold, two-pronged tool, came to Italy in the 11th century in the dowry of a Byzantine princess who married Domenico Selvo, a Venetian doge.

After witnessing the princess use the fork, the church severely censured her, stating that the utensil was an affront to God's intentions for fingers. Thereafter the fork disappeared from the table for nearly 300 years...

The fork began to gain acceptance in Italy by the late sixteenth century, a period when upper-class Italians expressed renewed interest in cleanliness. However, the French court considered the fork an awkward, even dangerous, utensil, and the nobility did not accept it until the seventeenth century when protocol deemed it uncivilized to eat meat with both hands. The way to use the fork remained a mystery, and many sophisticates, notably King Louis XIV, continued to eat with fingers or a knife.

The modern table setting is attributed to Charles I of England who in 1633 declared, "It is decent to use a fork," a statement that heralded the beginning of civilized table manners.

But it wasn't until almost a century later that the fork gained acceptance among the lower class... Because the average family owned a limited number of forks, historians suggest that the service of sherbet midway through a meal gave the servants time to wash the forks used earlier on.

Up & Down & Up &….

Daniels Energy Special Customer Savings News August 2021

Bought gas this week? $3.17.

A year ago it was $1.67 at Costco. Under $2.00 everywhere else. It’s the same with the price of oil. And propane. We understand it has something to do with a thing Adam Smith was going on about in 1776.

Last year – you stayed home. No demand. You didn’t drive anywhere and oh my gosh was there a glut of oil. Tons of supply. So, naturally prices came down. Then everyone went home. And stayed there.

With 65% of us vaccinated today we’re ready to get back to regular life. Which means all kinds of travel. And consumption – up by 63% over last year. But - thousands of people in the oil refining business - haven't come back to work yet!

Now – the problem is supply. And so prices, much like that roller coaster, have gone down and up.

Now may be a good time to cap your price for the season. Just give us a call or just ride the coaster. Prices will eventually even out again.

Try Some BBQ

Daniels Energy Special Customer Savings News August 2021

Make that burger or…try this chicken.

In the first 15 minutes will brown the outer skin and the next 20 to 30 minutes will finish the cooking process. Sugars can burn at high heat so adding the sauce later will keep the chicken from burning on the grill while producing a nice sweet sticky grilled skin!

Preheat the grill to medium heat to make sure it is ready to evenly cook before adding your bird. Brush the grate with oil so the skin doesn’t stick. Meat is done when your meat thermometer reads 165 degrees.

  1. Barbecue the chicken with the skin side down for about 15 minutes. Turn it over and baste with BBQ Chicken Sauce (make your own homemade barbecue sauce or use pre-made).
  2. Cook an additional 20 to 30 minutes, constantly basting with the sauce

Mercury Rising: John Glenn, John Kennedy, and the New Battleground of the Cold War
