This – Really – Just In…

Today, Eversource paid $1.8 million for deceptive marketing practices last summer that resulted in consumers switching to natural gas in the South Windsor area. 

This is on top of a $1.8 million fine levied on them in December for failing to disclose who was paying for marketing materials promoting natural gas conversion.

Should have published this last month on the 53^rd anniversary of the landing on the moon. But, noooo….I put the info in the wrong folder. So here it is to celebrate the amazing Ms. Hamilton.

Margaret Hamilton, NASA's lead developer for Apollo program, stands next to all the code she wrote by hand that took humanity to the moon in 1969. She was director of the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, which developed on-board flight software for NASA's Apollo program.

I loved water skiing. Then I wondered…what lunatic came up this idea?

In 1922 a Minnesotan named Ralph Samuelson gripped an iron ring at the end of a rope tied to his brother’s motorboat and the 18 year old stood on a pair of pine boards and skipped across the surface of Lake Pepin – the first person in recorded history to ski on water.  

So – if you enjoy the joys of skipping across the water – remember Ralph!

Catatumbo lightning is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela.

It originates from a mass of storm clouds at an altitude of more than 1 km, and occurs during 140 to 160 nights a year, nine hours per day, and from 16 to 40 times per minute.

The lightning changes its frequency throughout the year, and it is different from year to year. For example, it ceased from January to March 2010, apparently due to drought, leading to speculation that it might have been extinguished permanently.

Worm Charming?

A competitor uses a brass instrument to lure worms as he takes part in the Falmouth Worm Charming Championships in Falmouth, Cornwall, England.

Worm charming (What?) is the act of enticing earthworms to the surface of the Earth.

Participants are allocated a 3x3m square zone in which to work, in teams of up to four people for a 30-minute period. Most worm-charming methods involve vibrating the soil, which encourages the worms to the surface. As you would.
