GERMANY AND THE REFORMATION
500TH ANNIVERSARY TRIP
Have you always wanted to visit Germany and see the places where the Reformation began? This year, in the 500th anniversary of the Reformation's beginning, join us as we travel to sites like Wittenberg, where Luther taught as professor and posted the 95 Theses; the Wartburg Castle, where he translated the New Testament into German for all to read; Eisleben, where Luther was born; and many more! Imagine the beauty of rejoicing in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ with the sounds and sights of His glorious creation all around. Seagulls overhead, sharks and dolphins seen in the distance as the sun rises over the Mississippi sound. Christians gather from all over the world to celebrate the Son of God and His resurrection from the dead. It's all about Jesus and what His death and resurrection means for us. The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd invites all to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord with a special Easter Sunrise Service on Biloxi Beach. The Service will be
April 16, 2017 at 6:30 AM at the fire pit at Hwy 90 and White Ave
. The service will be led by Pastor James Garnett. Regular Worship Service will be held at 10:30 AM at the church. The youth are sponsoring a pancake breakfast to help fund their trip to the National Youth Gathering. The church is located at 2004 Pass Road in Biloxi. CONCORDIA COLLEGE ALABAMA ALUMNI AND FRIENDS
Dear Alumni and Friends,
The weekend of May 11-14, 2017 is rapidly approaching. The deadline for sending in your various fees is even closer. Keep in mind that all are asked to submit the dues of $35.00 whether you plan to attend or not. We hope and pray that you are planning to attend all the activities and will send your payments accordingly.
I am asking all of the Alumni/Friends Chapters to submit their gifts to the Association and thereby to Concordia College Alabama on or before May 12th, 2017. All other fees you are asked to send to me, or
Mrs. Gracie Hollins,Treasurer on or before April 1st, and no later than the 15th, of April 2017. Please go to Concordia College Alabama web and give a little of your precious time to the Alumni Association bar and you will be given all the activities for the weekend so identified. A brief summary is given here. Would you please share the information with all those in your area who are graduates and friends of the college?
To those chapters that I know are diligently working to make your fundraiser a success, blessings to you. I am praying that all will go well and that you will have excellent support from those who love our institution.

3. Saturday, May 13th -- 2017 Alumni/Friends Breakfast $5.00. The time is 8:00 A.M. to 9:15 A.M.
A. Graduation Exercises in the Julius/Mary Jenkins Center 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. The class of 1967 will participate. All the Pastors are invited to attend the graduation exercises and to bring their individual red stole and robe.

Recognition of accomplishments of African-Americans
was held during the Black History program at
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Prattville AL, where Rev. Jeff Hesterman is Pastor. The program, "A Century of Black Life, Culture and History-The Struggle Continues..." featured speaker Constance Smith Hendricks, PhD, RN, FAAN, a Concordia alumni who returned to establish an accredited nursing program.
Hendricks talked about her struggles as a young divorced student with a 10 year old daughter leaving Alabama to attend Boston College in Massachusetts, where she graduated in 1992 as the first African American to complete the PhD program in clinical nursing research. She shared that the local church gave her the support she needed as the only black student in the College of Nursing.
Hendricks retired two years ago from the School of Nursing at Auburn University where she held the Charles W. Barkley Endowed Chair. She returned "home" to establish and direct a nursing program at Concordia College Alabama. She had attended the institution -- then named Alabama Lutheran Academy -- from the age of three through high school.
She serves as professor, Division of Health Sciences Chair and Department of Nursing Director-RN to BSN Program. She told the congregation she was excited about Concordia College Alabama recently gaining a six-year accreditation for the nursing program through the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation in February.
Dr. Hendricks reminded us that "There is nothing too hard for God." Her uplifting message included references from James 4:2, "You have not, because you ask not" and Matthew 21:22, "Whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." She concluded her remarks with a stirring rendition of "Only What You Do For Christ Will Last."

COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT
St. Mark's - Elberta, AL
St. Mark's in Elberta, AL held their Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8. It was a great success and there were many children there from the community as well as our church. Toby Moore played his guitar and sang praise music during the event. In addition to the Easter egg hunt, children had the opportunity to play many games, color Christian Easter pictures, and receive gift bags and a Christian cross bookmark.

LWML Retreat
The Louisiana-Mississippi LWML District is sponsoring a weekend retreat on
April 28-30 at Rosaryville Spirit Life Center in Ponchatoula, LA. The theme for
the retreat is "The Greatest of These is Love". Pastoral Counselors Pastor Bill
Vogt and Pastor David Hartung will lead participants through the many aspects
of love as found in Scripture and show how we can reflect them in our lives.
There will be opportunities for fun and relaxation as well.

The featured speaker for the Youth Gathering is Pastor Travis Hartjen. Pastor Travis is a  church
planter in Allen, TX, where he helped launch Tangible Grace. Prior to that, he was a DCE and focused on the discipleship of families and students. He speaks around the country weaving the truth of Jesus with humor and anecdotes from his own life.
The Great Romance Band - Worship/Rock Band from the St. Louis, MO area - will be featured.

The 140th anniversary of
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod's Black Ministry will be celebrated during a convocation July 12-16, 2017, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Black Ministry Family Convocation will gather under the theme:
"All For Jesus: Know Him - Confess Him - Serve Him."
Attendees will also proclaim with our Synod's Reformation theme that "It's Still All About Jesus."
Please plan to join LCMS Black Ministry in celebrating this historic time in our church.

Ladies from the New Orleans Zone LWML gathered at Epiphany Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 19. An in-gathering of personal care items was contributed by the attendees and delivered to Ferncrest Manor on March 20.

STEWARDSHIP OF OUR CONGREGATIONS PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The basic Concept, Project Plan, and BOD approvals are in place. Just this past week, district leadership encouraged and supported the Stewardship of Our Congregations Initiative actions to preserve and grow our Lutheran presence in communities district-wide. Here are a few details . . .
We are moving forward to assemble the prototype effort and begin contacting candidate host (large/growing-stable) and satellite (small/declining) congregations. Current actions include drafting a project brochure and developing a set of pithy surveys to help Regional VPs, BOD, Circuit Visitors and Stewardship Advocates recruit candidate congregations. Information brochure and surveys will communicate shared principles and terms such as . . .
- Congregational identity . . . Connected multi-point parishes, never consolidated or combined.
- Worship culture . . . Key to connecting with like congregations, includes communion practice, style of worship, and ministry context.
- Partnership desire . . . Willingness to partner and participate with other congregations.
- Congregations self-describe/self-identify as growing, stable, declining.
- Components of congregational ministry will include Word and Sacrament ministry (worship service, sermon, communion), Education (Bible study, confirmation), and Pastoral care.
