Brant County Health Unit and Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit to become Grand Erie Public Health Unit beginning January 1, 2025

The Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) and the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) received approval from the Ministry of Health to merge into a single organization, effective January 1, 2025. Grand Erie Public Health, will serve the County of Brant, the City of Brantford, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County.

The blending of the two former health units’ programs and services will occur gradually throughout 2025. Public health services will remain the same initially, with programs continuing at the same locations both communities are used to.

The collaboration of both health units will enhance public health capacity, improve service delivery, and create a unified network for both communities.

Next month, the This Month at BCHU newsletter will have a different name and look. Stay tuned.

Know the Risks: Cannabis & Psychosis

Cannabis use, especially during adolescence, can impact brain development and increase the risk of psychosis.

As parents and caregivers, it’s important to know the risks of cannabis use and how it relates to psychosis. The conversations you have with your children about cannabis can make all the difference.

  • Stick to the facts! Share the potential risks of cannabis use and why you are having this conversation with your kids.

  • Encourage open, non-judgmental communication—sometimes, simply listening is the most powerful thing you can do.

  • Be the person your kids can trust to come to for information about cannabis.
