National Addictions Awareness Week - November 24-30, 2024

National Addiction Awareness Week (NAAW) highlights solutions to address the harms caused by the use of alcohol and other drugs. It serves as a key opportunity for people to learn about prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery, while having open discussions on ways to create positive change.

The theme for NAAW this year is "Forging Connections," focusing on how we can work together to overcome the challenges of addiction. This theme encourages dialogue around diverse experiences, ideas, and opinions within individuals, families, and communities.

Movember – A Focus on Men’s Mental Health

Movember is an annual event held in November where men grow mustaches to raise awareness about men’s health issues, particularly those related to prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

In recent years, Movember has broadened its focus to include mental health and suicide prevention, emphasizing the need for open conversations and greater support for men facing mental health challenges. Every hour, 60 men around the world tragically lose their lives to suicide, underscoring the urgent need for action and awareness.

Ensure Your Child’s Vaccine Record is Updated

To attend school in Ontario, all students must provide proof of routine childhood immunization, or a valid exemption, as per the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA). These immunization records are collected to help protect students and the public in case there is a vaccine preventable disease outbreak in our community.

It is a parent’s responsibility to report and update their child’s immunization records to the Brant County Health Unit. Physicians are not required to report immunizations, and many do not.

Students who fail to provide proof of immunization, or a valid exemption, may be suspended from school for up to 20 days.

Updating your child's immunization records online is easy. Click the link below with your child's Ontario Health Card to get started.
