Fall Immunizations  

Vaccines for COVID-19, Influenza and RSV will be available at pharmacies across Brantford-Brant, starting October 28.  

The updated KP.2 vaccine will provide the best protection for the strains of COVID-19 expected to circulate this fall and winter. If it’s been over six months since your last COVID-19 shot, or six months since you last had COVID-19, a booster is recommended. 

The flu shot is also free and is your best defense against the flu.

Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 6 - 12

Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is an annual campaign aimed to educate Canadians on the reality of mental illness.  

MIAW is held every October to enhance awareness around mental illness and substance use, as well as to reduce the stigma surrounding those with lived experience. 

Let’s raise awareness about the challenges faced by those with mental illness. 

National Breastfeeding Week, October 1 - 7

October 1 – 7 is National Breastfeeding Week.  

This year's theme is "Closing the Gap -Breastfeeding Support for All." 

#WBW2024 will showcase the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce inequalities in our society, focusing on breastfeeding in emergencies and crises. 

BCHU is here to help with breastfeeding support. Join us Monday mornings for our ‘Infant Feeding Support Café’ at EarlyOn (30 Bell Lane, Brantford) from 9 a.m. – 11. a.m. A BCHU public health nurse will be on site to answer infant feeding questions and help show you effective breastfeeding techniques. 

Our nurses also provide home visits, as well as phone and virtual support. 

Immunization of School Pupils Act Catch-Up Appointments Available 

BCHU will be offering an immunization clinic, by appointment, at the Health Unit on Friday, November 15 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. To book an appointment, call 519-753-4937 ext. 451. Please note that a health card is not required. 

To attend school in Ontario, all students must provide proof of routine childhood immunization, or a valid exemption, as per the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA). It is a parent’s responsibility to report and update their child’s immunization records to the Brant County Health Unit. Students who fail to provide proof of immunization, or a valid exemption, may be suspended from school for up to 20 days.
