It’s Nutrition Month: Stay Informed on Nutrition Labels

Food labels can help you make better choices, but we understand that for many people, affordable food options can be a challenge. Even if you don't always have the luxury to pick and choose, knowing how to read food labels can help you when you do.

Check the Nutrition Facts Table and Ingredient List to see if a product has a lot of added sugars, sodium, or unhealthy fats (saturated fat). Use the % Daily Value (DV) to understand how much of a nutrient is in a serving:

  • 5% DV or less = A little
  • 15% DV or more = A lot!

Make sure to check the label before you buy - your health deserves it!

Less is More When it Comes to Safe Sleep

It’s Safe Sleep Week from March 10-14. We are highlighting safe sleep practices for babies to help bring awareness and reduce the risk of infant sleep-related injuries and deaths.

Choosing the right sleep environment for your baby is key for their safety. Before you buy any baby sleep products, take a moment to consider safety. Some products that look convenient may not be safe for sleep.

The only products that your baby needs for safe sleep are:

  • A crib, cradle, or bassinet that meets Canada safety regulations
  • A firm, flat mattress with a tightly fitted sheet
  • Simple, fitted sleepwear like a sleeper

Avoid products:

  • With soft padding
  • Without a firm, flat sleeping surface
  • That can cause your baby to overheat

Preventing the Spread of Rabies in Our Community

Click the link below to learn more.

Haldimand - Norfolk
Brantford - Brant

Rabies is a very serious disease spread by infected animals through bites or scratches. Although the risk of bumping into a rabid animal in Grand Erie is low, never approach wild or strangely acting animals.

If you’re exposed to rabies, wash the wound with soap and water and seek medical treatment immediately. Without prevention treatments, the rabies virus is almost always fatal. And remember to keep your pets and livestock vaccinated against rabies!
