Milliken Art Gallery, Converse College

Andrew Blanchard, Director of Studio Art and Associate Professor of Printmaking and Photography at Converse, will present an exhibition featuring the work he explored during his sabbatical in the Spring of 2018. It’s Like This, Though will showcase Blanchard’s mixed-process prints on wood and paper while his imagery will deliver an honest commentary on the cultural character of the American South.

Blanchard will present a Gallery Talk on September 6 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to join us at Opening Convocation for a historic, day-long event which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the enrollment of our first Black students. In recognition of this milestone, special elements have been added to Convocation including the procession of Black alumnae and a performance by the Gospel Choir. Following Convocation, please join us for lunch with the Converse community and special breakout discussions. Registration is required.

Violinist Maura Shawn Scanlin and guitarist Conor Hearn unite to form “Rakish.” The pair gets their namesake from the traditional Irish tune Rakish Paddy, an origin that aptly suits the duo and their shared background in traditional Irish and Scottish music. Yet “rakish” itself also suggests something strikingly unconventional in its appearance, and Maura and Conor knowingly embrace this wealth of connotation in their music.
