RMS Robin Tweetings Newsletter
A message from Principal Jackson
With Gratitude…Happy November RMS friends and families. Gratitude can be defined as thankfulness or gratefulness. It is a feeling of appreciation felt by and/or similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity. At RMS, we model gratitude through our actions towards one another. Our staff provide engaging opportunities for learning, and our students enjoy the variety of experiences they receive at school. We are grateful to partner with you to educate your scholar, and welcome the opportunity to mold them at this stage in their development. The dedicated staff at RMS are here to provide encouragement and support for our students and families, and are grateful to do so on a daily basis. Let’s continue to partner on this journey by communicating the need for a safe, respectful learning environment for all Robins.

Do You Need Assistance? If your Robin needs a warm coat, or if your family needs other resources, please contact our main office at 763-504-4800 to speak with a school social worker or be routed to our guidance office to speak with a school counselor. We are here to help!

Feeling Sick? Stay Home! If your RMS Robin is feeling ill, please keep them at home and have them log onto their Schoology to get assignments done. We are trying hard to keep our students and staff safe. Wearing masks and staying at home when people are sick helps a lot! If you would like your child to bring home a COVID saliva testing kit, please call the Nurse’s Office at 763-504- 4809 to request one. Here’s more information you can use below from our Nurse, Val Minder:

Apply for Educational Benefits for the 2021-2022 School Year
Every family, every year. We ask that ALL families with children enrolled with Robbinsdale Area Schools complete an Application for Educational Benefits each year. It’s quick and easy.

Whether you qualify or not, applying Educational Benefits each are is important because:

  • It provides educational funding for Robbinsdale Area Schools.
  • Determines benefits for students and their families. One benefit is students who qualify may be able to have their Device Protection Plan (formally known as Chromebook insurance) reduced to a lower price.

Please note, school meals for the 2021-2022 school year are free for all students! However, it is still very important that all families fill out an application for Educational Benefits.

You can apply for Educational Benefits by:
  1. Visit TITAN K-12 Family Portal.
  2. Follow the instructions to complete your application online.

An eligibility notice letter will be sent out via USPS mail or email within 10 business days.
If you would like a paper copy of the application for educational benefits, available in English, Spanish, and Somali, or if you have questions, please call Lori Opitz at 763-504-8050 or email at lori_opitz@rdale.org.
Device Protection Plan Information
You are now able to log into your Parent Portal to pay for your student(s) Device Protection Plan, formally known as Chromebook Insurance, through Parent Portal/Infinite Campus.
The Device Protection Plan costs $25.00 per student, but can be reduced lower if your student(s) qualify for educational benefits. The Device Protection Plan covers a students first accidental break. Intentional damage to a Chromebook is not covered under the Device Protection Plan.

Parent Teacher Advisory Committee

RMS Parent Teacher Advisory Council (PTAC) NEEDS YOU!

The RMS PTAC is a wonderful group of parents and teachers who work hard together for our students. We are in desperate need of more parents because our current ones will be transitioning to high school.
In order for our students and staff to continue receiving support from our PTAC, we need more parents to take the baton and keep our wonderful organization viable. I have included our position descriptions below, in hope that you will consider joining and co-sharing some responsibilities. We have short monthly meetings, and really collaborate to share the work! Please help our PTAC.
For more information email Principal Jackson at shirrie_jackson@rdale.org or our PTAC President (and RMS parent) Christina Skoglund at chriskog@comcast.net.

  • See scheduled arrival times for each stop.
  • Receive messages that notify users of route delays and schedule changes.

Download the Durham Bus Tracker app through the Apple app store or Google Play.
  • In the Apple app store, search for Durham Bus Tracker and then download the app.

A Note from Aiysha Mustapha, Family and Community Engagement Specialist
My name is Aiysha Mustapha I am one of four Family and Community Engagement Specialists assigned to various schools throughout the district. I am reaching out to all parents of Pan African students.

My purpose in reaching out to you is to ask you to join the Parents of Pan African Students Affinity Group. This group exists intending to bring together parents of students of African birth/ heritage. For those unfamiliar with the term Pan African, your student identifies as African American, Liberian, Nigerian, Togolese, Cameroonian, Somali, Caribbean (Haitian, Bajan), or other across the African Diaspora, even if you do not. An Affinity group is a group of individuals with one common purpose or interest, and ours is the academic success of Pan African students.

How can we as parents work together learning the Robbinsdale Area School’s district goals and navigating the system to help our children reach their full potential? We all have different experiences, and valuable information that we can add to the current fabric of diversity RAS is eager to protect and uplift.

To show interest in joining the Parents of Pan African Student meetings, please click this link.

Please click this link to access the previous recording of the meeting on Oct. 14th. The access code is: 9?QET5cQ
