All Saints Sunday

This Sunday, November 7 we will be celebrating All Saints Sunday. This is a time when we remember all the saints, famous and little known, who have blessed us with their presence, examples, and prayers. At the 10 a.m. service there will be an opportunity at the Offertory to bring up a picture of those who have been special to you and place them on a table at the top of the chancel steps. There is no limit to how many you may bring. They may be family members who have passed away. They may be famous people that have been major influences on your life.

Also please send a list of those who have died in the last year whom you would like to have remembered in the prayers. Send your list to Karen Ackerman at [email protected] or call her at 860-597-9465.

We ask each of you to join us at one stewardship session. These meetings are small group gatherings where, during a short presentation, each of you will all have an opportunity to ask questions and share your thoughts about our common church life.

ORGAN COMMITTEE CONSIDERING
RESTORATION WORK ON THE ST MICHAEL’S ORGAN

Over the roughly 30 years since the last major work on it was completed, the St Michael’s organ has gradually developed a number of noticeable and difficult to remedy mechanical issues. Last Spring, the Vestry began to address the growing concern about the current state of our organ and tasked me with forming a committee to research and discuss possible ways forward to remedy those issues. The committee members are Peter Aziz, Martha Babbitt, Anne Bowen, Kristin Eaton, Mark Johnson, Ann McKinney, Daniel Scifo, Peg Sullivan, and Amy Vinisko.

When we first met in June, the committee learned about the history of the organ and became familiar with the issues and challenges currently affecting the aging instrument. Based on the information gathered at that meeting, the committee asked Mark Johnson to contact various organ builders and restorers to gain a sense of the scope and cost of renovating the organ. He has done that and has gotten some valuable feedback.

We have two companies who have visited St Michael’s and are interested in engaging in the process. We have another company planning to come to Litchfield in January to complete a survey and submit a proposal. When the committee has all three proposals in hand, we will meet to compare and discuss each one.

I will keep you updated on the potential project as it moves forward. Meantime, feel free to reach out with questions as they arise.

With warm regards,

Kristin Eaton

THE SUNDAY PAPER JUNIOR is aimed at younger children (preschool through grade 3 or 4), and covers both tracks of the Revised Common Lectionary. The SUNDAY PAPER JUNIOR features one lesson only, usually the Gospel. THE SUNDAY PAPER JUNIOR offers big, bold artwork, a simple story line, an activity page designed to stir children's imaginations and spirituality and that requires pencil or crayons only (no glue or scissors) and does not involve word games or other literacy-based activities.
