Klezmer Workshop
Sunday, February 24 12:30-3:30pm
with Cookie Segelstein
Jewish Community Library, SF
Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Moldavian music all in one set? How about in one tune? In this workshop, we combine co-territorial music the way it was done by traditional klezmer musicians, to facilitate wedding dances. This is both a reading and by ear class, with concentration on merging traditional styles of music throughout and beyond the Pale of Settlement.

Class material will be emailed with

  • $25 (or pay what you can)
  • All ages and acoustic instruments welcome
  • For intermediate level players or above
  • Listeners welcome - donation requested
  • Workshop music is available online for workshop registrants

Workshops in 2019 have been made possible by a grant from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, in partnership with the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation,
and Surdna Foundation.
