Ulu o ka lā

Growth of the sun. “Said of the light of sunrise just as the Sun’s rim touches the horizon.”

In the Christian tradition, “Advent” is a time-honored observance, commemorating the return of the Sun. Every year, an end to the shortening of the day’s light is celebrated by multitudes throughout Christendom and beyond. The expectation and anticipation of more light through the day is the reason for “Advent” as the Earth tilts on its axis. On Sunday, November 29, we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, and also Aloha Sunday, honoring the tradition of proverbs from the Hawaiian people. Rev Geo returns to the platform at Unity Windward to share a message of hope and faith ignited by the Advent season and the growth of the Sun, through the ʻolelo, Ulu o ka lā.

We ask each family to make a box and add an item to the box each day. Just before Christmas we will collect the boxes and take them to a local food bank! We will begin filling the boxes on November 26th. Please put any non perishable foods you want in the box. Below we have listed some suggestions.

From Thanksgiving to December 19th you should have 24 items in your box by the time Christmas comes! Please bring your box to the church and we will deliver the boxes to our local food bank!
