2024 Estimates of Giving:

Submit Yours Today!

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10)

Last Sunday we heard from Elder Kara Landefeld about why she gives to FPC. Join Kara in submitting your estimate of giving for 2024 online, or putting your pledge card in the offering plate this Sunday. We are seeking 100% participation in our Abundant Life annual giving campaign, at whatever level is right for you. A habit of giving as a spiritual practice helps us become joy-filled, generous people who live out of a sense of God's abundance. Join us in celebrating the abundant life we share at FPC!

Ring in the Changes with FPC!

by Music Director Michael Dennis

We will be bringing back the bell choir this Advent season. (Read more about Bells in the Church in the article link below.) The children's ensemble has already started practice. Adults are welcome to join us after worship on November 12, 19, and December 3 and 10. If you can't attend every week, don't worry: we'll make it work. Music-reading ability is NOT required. Nor are Swiss costumes or vows of silence!

Turn Out for Zoning for Housing

in the City of Alexandria!

VOICE is looking for people to show support for Zoning for Housing at two important dates coming up with the City of Alexandria Council: a hearing on Nov. 14, 6:30-9pm & a subsequent final vote on the topic on Nov. 28 from 7-9pm. Of the two dates, the November 14 hearing is the most important, but it will also be good for the Council to see VOICE leaders at the final vote. Planning to attend? Please use the links below to sign up. All Council meetings are held at the Alexandria City Hall at 301 King Street. Questions? Contact Rev. Blair Moorhead.

What's Thanksgiving Without Pie?

Support Food & Friends' "Slice of Life" Fundraiser! Order Pie(s) by Nov 15

Now in its 18th year, Food & Friends’ Slice of Life fundraiser has become a tradition in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Pie Sellers and Pie Teams will come together to sell pies and raise money, ensuring that neighbors facing serious illnesses can enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal complete with two delicious pies.

You can support Food & Friends by buying a pie for yourself or a loved one or for a Food & Friends client to receive on Thanksgiving. There are five delicious flavors to choose from, all made by top bakery Whisked! Choose from apple crumble, classic pumpkin, nutty pecan, sweet potato, or crowd favorite sea salt chocolate chess pie. Visit www.sliceoflifedc.org to purchase pies.

Sales are open now through November 15. FPC will serve as a distribution spot for pies on Tuesday, November 21 from 8am-1:30 pm, so be sure to select us as your pick-up location.

The Annual Hanging of the Greens

on November 26

Following worship on November 26, we will decorate our Sanctuary with greenery, including our chrismon tree.

Evergreens are traditionally associated with everlasting life. Holly symbolizes Jesus' death, and ivy represents the resurrection. We hang greens in our Sanctuary to prepare ourselves to welcome the coming Christ. Be sure to come and catch the spirit of the season!

Advent Bible Study Begins Nov 26!

The Gospel of Mark doesn’t have a nativity story—so where’s the Advent message? Join the Adult Bible Study class at 9:30 beginning Sunday, November 26, when a different leader each week will help us discover Advent in the Gospel of Mark. The short book Holy Disruption will be our guide to a fresh understanding of the holiness of Christmas grounded, not in a conventional cozy Christmas message, but through Mark’s disquieting gospel, which invites its readers to experience God’s disruptive but transformative love for us and our world. Participants will receive a copy of the book, which includes a daily Scripture reading guide to help you work your way through the gospel of Mark during the four weeks of Advent.
