THIS SUNDAY AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN

2nd Sunday after Epiphany

                    January 14, 2024

This Sunday at First Presbyterian Church: "Is God's Grace our Strength or our Weakness?"

This week's message will be delivered by Daryl Roller, former resident of Fort Scott. Daryl will give examples of how our weaknesses can be a strength, and our strengths a weakness. Roller, his wife Christy and 3 daughters Amy, Beth, and Sarah were residents of Fort Scott for 38 years. He retired from FSCC in 2010 and moved to Lenexa to be nearer family members.

See you Sunday,

Mert

FIRST READING:  Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

 SECOND READING: Ephesians 2:4-10

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. The Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God.
