Inspired by the children of Israel wandering in the wilderness for 40 years and Jesus fasting in the desert for 40 days, Lent is a 40-ish day season of reflection, repentance, and reconciliation. Our Lenten series this year is “This We Believe: learning and living the sacred creeds of the church.” Each Sunday, we are exploring one of the creeds housed in the United Methodist Book of worship. Last Sunday, we explored Creed 883: “A Statement of Faith of the United Church of Canada”. This Sunday, we focus on Creed 886: “The World Methodist Social Affirmation”. Creeds help us have faithful Christian confession, familial Christian community, and fruitful Christian character. As we worship, may God help us learn the creed so that we can live the creed. May Christ help us learn the creed so that we can better love God, neighbor, and self. May the Spirit impart the creeds into our hearts, minds, and souls. Come, let us worship.

Our scripture this week comes from 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Lura Turner Homes' News

It's been almost a year since Central United Methodist closed. We are still mourning that loss, as Central was the mother church to Lura Turner Homes, especially the Christian Ambassadors Class. Formed in 1970, it was the first Bible class for adults with special needs in Arizona. I was hoping that some Central members who volunteered with LTH residents would settle at CrossRoads. Sadly, that wasn't to be.

On the few times we've been able to get LTH residents to CrossRoads for worship, you've seen how vital prayer and praise, communion and fellowship is to this community. (Most agencies like ours offer NO spiritual enrichment at all!) That said, I'm inviting anyone interested in volunteering with LTH's Christian Ambassadors' Bible Class to visit our Joyce Ridge Civitan House, 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23rd to get acquainted with how we do things. We've been fortunate to have Marilyn Seese teach Bible study every other week at Civitan House. But she needs helpers and substitutes. Teachers and drivers are most needed to start with. Since we follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines, we will need at least two adults for every occasion, be it teaching or driving residents to CrossRoads from our Joyce Ridge Civitan House, 5038 North 17th Avenue (two blocks north of Camelback Road). I'd like to get six to eight volunteers so people can rotate the Sunday volunteers. Questions? See me or call at LTH's office: 602-943-4789.

On another note: A great big thank you to one and all who volunteered for our 27th High Tea on March 1. We had the wonderful challenge of outgrowing CrossRoads' space for the past couple years. And we were so grateful to First United Methodist-Glendale for welcoming us to their HUGE fellowship hall. I'm especially appreciative of the 37 volunteers from the CrossRoads church family who followed us to the new location. From table hostess to dishwashers to food preparers and more - CrossRoads hands and hearts were all LTH's this signature event and crucial fundraiser. Thank you and God bless you, one and all.

Blessings, Max.
