From the Desk of the Executive Director
Trace Haythorn,
Executive Director
While the conversations with AAPC have occupied a great deal of time in recent weeks, we are still busy with all of the rest of the work of ACPE. The boards of both the Association and the Foundation have had their orientations for new members and their first meetings of the year. Several board committees have also met for the first time in the new year, welcoming new members. Believe it or not, the ACPE office has been in our current space for almost five years, so we are actively negotiating a new lease.

AAPC Will Consolidate with ACPE
Amy Greene
Amy Greene,
Board Chair
We are about to write our next chapter together. ACPE and AAPC members broke voter turnout records and overwhelmingly voted in favor to consolidate into one association. Our two associations have a shared history, values and culture. Both born in the 1960s, each association had a slightly different mission and focus but more similarities than differences. During that time, we met and collaborated regularly. Now a little more than 50 years later, we will join as one association with a unified voice and mission.

Certification Updates: CEC Evaluations and Pre-Admission Participation in Peer Groups
Cecelia Walker, Certification Chair
I hope everyone is doing well, staying warm, and enjoying winter! Your Certification Commission has been hard at work since we began our terms in January. In our most recent conversation, we focused on two main topics: CEC Evaluations and pre-admission participation in peer groups.

CEC Evaluations
This past January, we implemented a significant change in our certification process that eliminated structured units of Certified Educator CPE.

ACPE Contract Educators
Pam Lazor,
Accreditation Chair
One of the most asked questions that comes to the Accreditation Commission is related to centers that are in need of hiring a short-term ACPE Certified Educator.  As this is a unique relationship for both the ACPE Certified Educator and for the center, we have developed a presentation to highlight some of the most important considerations for both parties.  If you have any questions about becoming a contract educator or if your center is looking to engage a contract educator, please reach out to your Area Accreditation Chair.

Who? What? When? Images from ACPE's Past
Do you recognize these folks or the event in the photo above? Send us a note at  [email protected]

Thank you for your responses to last week's photo. We received so many thoughtful responses that we thought we'd share a few below:

"Denise Haines and Joan Hemenway from the old Eastern Region.Significant mentors to many, especially in New York City and Connecticut in the training of students and ACPE supervisors.I encountered them at SOS events and Women Supervising Women.

Wise caring women who nurtured many of us with direct compassionate feedback and encouragement to continually strive to engage all people with humility, courage, and articulateness."

Sally Campbell, Retired Certified Educator

"Pictured here are two of my mentors from the Eastern Region, Denise Haines and Joan Hemenway. Denise and Joan were two of the intellectual giants of the 80's and 90's, and guided many gifted women and men through the certification process. Joan drew me to Hartford Hospital, where I was an SIT beginning in 1988."
Elizabeth Stroop, ACPE Certified Educator

"I recognize the person on the right to be the late Joan Hemenway, ACPE Supervisor and author of the book Inside the Circle. Her life and ministry touched many of us deeply. I was deeply saddened by her too soon departure from brain cancer a number of years ago"
John Takacs, ACPE Certified Educator

Weekly Highlights
This Week's Reflection
While those of us in warmer climates may not appreciate this piece as much as our northern sisters and brothers, it is a classic. The final refrain seems most appropriate as we plan for our new joint future as AAPC members join our association.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
