Last week, I was invited to attend a conversation hosted by the American Psychiatric Association Foundation in Washington DC. The attendees were a wonderful mix of psychiatrists, academics, clergy, and nonprofit executives. I was there in my role with the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, though I was certain to keep ACPE at the table as well. This was not the first meeting of the group, though the attendees included several first-timers like me.

The Accreditation Commission is in search of Certified Educators willing to serve as NSTCs for Six-year Reviews starting in 2023. The NSTC model has served ACPE well and is a key element in the relational model of accreditation that fosters mutual accountability. The NSTC leads a team, with at least one other CE and a practitioner in the field of spiritual care, to provide consultation for the variety of the CPE programs in ACPE. The team also guides programs to both the common and unique indicators for how a program demonstrates compliance with ACPE Standards.

A Poem for Reflection: In honor of Hispanic/Latinx heritage month, this selection provides a lovely example of an early 1900s poem. Published in Spanish in 1914 and translated into English in 1916, this Guatemalan poem conjures a lovely memory:
My Life Is a Memory
Rafael Arévalo Martínez
translated from Spanish by William George Williams
When I met her I loved myself.
It was she who had my best singing,
she who set flame to my obscure youth,
she who raised my eyes toward heaven.
Her love moistened me, it was an essence.
I folded my heart like a handkerchief
and after I turned the key on my existence.
And thus it perfumes my soul
with a distant and subtle poetry.

ACPE members are actively engaged in a wide variety of professional development activities including communities of practice, conferences, spiritual care research, and informal networking. We are more than just an association: we are a movement committed to the transformation of the human suffering. Our opportunities for formation and community enrich our member's work of healing and transforming people and communities in the US and across the globe.
