UPCOMING EVENTS

A BOOK EVENT AND  SIGNINGA Sense of Something Greater: Zen and the Search for Balance in Silicon Valley with author Les Kaye is Saturday, May 4, 5:00 p.m-6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. In this twenty-first century, life can grow increasingly apprehensive, as we become more reliant on  technology and material progress. Our growing dependency can allow technology to slowly overwhelm and stress can become a constant companion. Les Kaye and co-author, Teresa Bousa, will share their writings and teachings regarding responses to situations in thoughtful, caring ways that complement the modern world's need for logic and analytical judgement. For more information, contact Charlie Golden.

MARK AND GRETA IN CONCERT
Sunday May 5, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
Husband and wife team Mark Hanson and Greta Pedersen are, respectively, a Grammy-Award winning acoustic guitarist, and a nationally award-winning vocalist. Together, their concerts are a memorial mix of playful jazz, Americana, originals, and eclectic pop highlighted by blazing fingerpicking and soulful vocals. They will be joined by the Bay Area fingerstyle guitar duo of Teja Gerkin and Doug Young, who weave together traditional Celtic, jazz standards and classical pieces. Don't miss this  special  event! There will be a goodwill donation of $20 at the door.

FELLOWSHIP AT THE BALL PARK. Come out for a night of BBQ, Baseball and Fireworks at the San Jose Giants on Friday, May 17th. After gathering at 6:00pm at Turkey Mike's BBQ for supper, we will sit together in the Foothills reserved section to watch the San Jose Giants (SF Giants farm team) vanquish the Lake Elsinore Storm (SD Padres farm team). After the game we will watch a great fireworks show. Group tickets for BBQ and game are $27 adult, $16 child. Game only are $10 adult, $8 senior/child. Please sign up in the courtyard.

LUMINARIA PARTY AND ACS FUNDRAISER.   June 1, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Jean and Charlie Golden's home (565 University Avenue). All are invited to create your own messages of hope to honor a cancer survivor or in memory of one who lost the battle with cancer. We will decorate luminaria bags that will line the pathway of the relay. The MaCaJotrio will share their wonderful music during the evening. Hearty hors d' oeuvres and drinks will be served and all materials will be provided. Please let the Goldens know if you think you will attend this event so they will have enough food and the materials needed. Sign up in the courtyard or call (650) 941-8133 or email  jgolden@LATD-LLC.com . If you are unable to attend, you can send the names of those you wish to honor to Jean and we will make luminaria for you. The American Cancer Society suggests a minimum donation of each $10 for each luminaria.

                          ANNOUNCEMENTS

COME JOIN OUR SOUND TEAM!  Laurel Anderson, Nikki Hensley, John Reimann and John Lathrop are looking for another team member.  We rotate Sundays.  About one Sunday a month, you would operate the Sound System control panel.  That involves pushing buttons at the right time, and twisting knobs to Ride the Gain for each speaking person, so that they're loud enough to be understood but not too loud.  We train you along a very gentle learning curve.  If you would like to contribute to the church in this interesting and engaging way, talk to anyone in our group.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
donations will be accepted gratefully throughout the month of April. Our congregation is joining with churches in eight other denominations throughout the United States to help provide funds for disaster relief, development assistance, safe refuge, and health and social services to our sisters and brothers throughout the world. Please read the literature in the pews and prayerfully consider what God calls us to share with others.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

JOYFUL NOISE HANDBELL CHOIR. If you've ever thought about ringing with the bell choir, now would be a good time to stand up and be counted! You don't need to know anything about bells. Short-term commitments (a month at a time) welcome! If you're interested, talk with Gretchen or Fred. The bell choir rehearses most Wednesdays from 6:00until 7.30 in the meeting room.

FOOTHILLS' CHOIR NEEDS YOU!  To all the singers who don't read music, have plans Wednesday evenings or prefer to 'show up and sing'. We in the Easy Choir are looking for you!  We meet in the Sanctuary at 9:15 am every 1st Sunday of the month. Want to sing more
often? The Chancel Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings in the sanctuary. Fred Cummins can help with rehearsal schedule and answer any questions.
