EASTER IN JULY!

Several of our Easter lilies were taken home this spring and planted in a garden. The photos you see here were sent along recently and, as you can see, the lilies are absolutely beautiful! They are thriving and blooming again.

This is a wonderful reminder that Easter doesn't end when spring gives way to summer. The promise of new life continues to grow long after the last Easter hymn is sung. Like the lilies, God's gifts of hope, new life and joy take root and blossom in unexpected places.

The flowers are a reminder that the good news of Easter is still growing. They is risen! They is risen indeed!

MIDWEEK WORSHIP UNDER THE SUMMER SKY

(AND ICE CREAM TOO!)

Take a break from the middle of your week and join us for an evening of worship in the beauty of God's creation. On Wednesday, July 15, we'll gather at Sunny Heights Events Center (Alan Metz’s farm at 17641 Templeton Road, Ames) for an outdoor worship service. We’ll begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish up with an ice cream social.

The evening promises to be a wonderful opportunity to slow down, breathe the fresh summer air, hear God's Word, sing God's praises, enjoy one another's company and share a bowl (or two!) of ice cream.

Come, rain or shine (Alan has beautiful indoor space)! Invite a friend! Celebrate a summer evening filled with faith, fellowship and a sweet treat.

HELPING IS EASY AS PIE!

GLC is hosting a RAGBRAI welcome and refreshment stand on July 22. Thousands of cyclists will ride down Main Street Gilbert that morning and we'd love to greet them with hospitality, pie and hard-boiled eggs.

You’ll be receiving an email tomorrow at 7:22 a.m. inviting you to help. We’ll need volunteers to bake frozen premade pies, cut and box pie slices, sell pie and eggs and then clean-up our stand afterwards. The email will have more details and information.

As we said last week, the best part is that this is another way to share God's love with the world as riders literally do come from all over the world. And, another good thing, the proceeds will go towards our youth programming.

Watch for tomorrow's email, find the role that's right for you and help us offer a warm GLC welcome to RAGBRAI riders. It really is easy as pie!

SUMMER SHALOM

Walk into our Shalom Room and you’ll be welcomed with cleverly designed summer themed tables. Each one has a different summer activity including vacationing, reading, camping, travel, hiking, road tripping, outdoor sports, beach and the ocean. GLC is blessed with decorators Jan Boehme and Cindy Clark, who make our Shalom Room inviting with their creative table displays throughout the year. Thank you, Jan & Cindy! We enjoy your work and appreciate all that you both do to help GLC be a welcoming place.

NEW SMILING FACE NEEDED

If you can smile, count, know the difference between red and blue and like to have fun, then your presence is needed in the GLC Bell Choir! Director Denise Henderson and the rest of the ringers (who really aren’t “ringers”) can teach you anything else you need to know to participate in this beautiful music ministry at GLC!

Practices are on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. The first rehearsal for the coming school/church year will be August 5th. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact our Denise at (515) 450-4001 or dhn133@gmail.com.

SARA OJARD GOLF SCRAMBLE & FUNDRAISER

On July 25, the Prochnow family will be hosting the 5th annual Sara Ojard Golf Scramble & Fundraiser. Benefiting Friendship Ark, the event remembers Sara Prochnow Ojard’s commitment to making a difference.

This year, things have changed a bit. Golf will be on Saturday, July 25, at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. The BBQ will be a pre-golf evening of food, games and music and will take place Friday, July 24. This will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Tom & Sharon’s home in Gilbert (406 Joy Circle). Please come!

Interested in golfing? Great! The event will be a scramble. You can register by following the link below.

Interested in eating? Wonderful! The BBQ gathering, games and music begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Interested in donating? Amazing! Summer weekends are busy and not every opportunity fits every schedule. So, if you can't participate in person, you can still be part of the events by making a donation to Friendship Ark using the link below.
