This past weekend, eleven young people affirmed their faith through the Rite of Confirmation. We are grateful for each of them, for their families, for our church family and for the good work God has begun in these friends.

This Sunday is All Saints Sunday and we gather as Family – God’s Family. We’ll give thanks for the saints who have joined us along the way since our last All Saints Sunday and we’ll remember those who have journeyed Home in Light since then as well. During the service, we’ll also be lighting candles in remembrance of all the saints in our lives.

The second annual Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held on Sat., Nov. 15 at the Collegiate United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation (2622 Lincoln Way, Ames). The soup supper will be held between 5:30 - 8 p.m. and will also include bread and homemade desserts. The soup will be served in a handmade bowl made by a local artist that diners are able to keep as a reminder of the empty bowls in our community and beyond.

This year, the event will benefit three organizations that address food insecurity. These are Gilbert Backpack Buddies, the ISU Students Helping Our Peers (SHOP) food pantry and HOPE (Helping Other People Eat) Pantry at the AMES Center. Tickets are $30 each (cash or check only) and are available for purchase in GLC church office.

Just a reminder to fall back by one hour this Sunday, November 2nd. Enjoy that additional hour of sleep!

+ comfort, peace and rest for Carol Capesius. Carol, the sister of Scott Bleich, has had cancer for several years. She has now entered hospice care.

+ comfort, peace and rest for Linda Doyle. Linda, the mother of Katie Youngberg, was diagnosed with ALS this summer. She has now entered hospice care.

+ healing for Piper Binkowski. Piper will have surgery on November 4 to remove a cyst from her wrist.

+ healing for Ruth Lindgren. Ruth, the mother of Angie Bleich, is recovering following an automobile accident last Wednesday.

+ safe recovery and return for Hasan Younis. Hasan is a Palestinian prisoner who was taken 2 years ago and has not been allowed to see a lawyer. He is the cousin of Nawal (Younis) Ardoin, a Gilbert community member. Nawal is a friend of Jenna Prusa.
