We’ll also have our annual Blessing of Backpacks that morning. This is certainly for students, teachers and school staff, but IT’S ALSO FOR EVERYBODY! Because wherever we spend our days, we all need the same reminders: BE LOVED. BE KIND. BE YOU.

So bring your backpack, school bag, work bag or whatever you carry through your day and we’ll send one another out remembering that we are loved, called to kindness and free to be the people God created us to be.

GLC’s Extending Grace friends are inviting you to be part of a Labor Day thank-you to those who serve our community, The group is putting together boxes of assorted cookies to share with people in our community who will be working on Labor Day. It’s a simple way of saying “Thank you!” to those who share their gifts and vocations with us every day – and especially on a holiday when many of us get to rest.

Here’s the plan . . . Following worship on Sunday, September 6, we’ll gather in the Shalom Room to fill gift boxes with cookies. You’re invited to bring a dozen or two cookies to add to the assortments. We’ll pack the boxes together and then take them along with us to deliver on Monday to people and places that are still hard at work.

Even if you don’t bring cookies (but we hope you do!), you’re invited to stay Sunday and help pack – and, most importantly, to take a box or two with you to deliver on Monday.

Cookies, appreciation and a little extra grace for those who labor on Labor Day!

School started yesterday and you and your GLC Family added a little goodness and blessing to the beginning of a new year.

As each GCSD bus driver arrived at The Barn for the first day of school, a gift bag was waiting. Each bag included two boxes of M&M’s (milk chocolate and peanut), a blessing on the front and back of the bag and a laminated prayer to take along for the road.

It’s a small gesture, but one with a big message: We’re grateful for our schools, for those who care for our students and especially for the drivers who carry some of our community’s most precious passengers safely down the road each day.

It’s our own a small way of sending a little gratitude along for the ride.

Sunday’s Gathering Litany struck a chord with a number of people, so we’re sharing it here. As Kris Davison shared reflections on the Lord’s Prayer, these words offered a meaningful way to begin our time together and prepare us to hear again the prayer Jesus taught us.

With the beginning of a new school year upon us, it is time once again to begin scheduling volunteers for GLC's Backpack Buddy program. Backpack Buddies provides bags of shelf stable food for students at Gilbert Community Schools whose families are food insecure. Volunteers are needed on a weekly basis to provide fruit, pack bags and deliver bags to the schools in Gilbert.

Each month, a group of GLCers serves as our Service Committee. These friends help with Community & Conversation on the second Sunday of their month and may be called on to help with special events and/or funerals. The Service Committee is an extremely important and valued group! We are grateful for all the ways they share their gifts.

+ healing for Mark Kehrli. Mark is recovering at home following back surgery at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

+ healing for Anne Walden. Anne is recuperating at Northcrest Health Center following a recent fall and hospitalization.
