Staff Appreciation Week:
Students Show Their Appreciation Day

When we asked the staff what they liked most they answered the pictures and notes from students. On Wednesday, May 9th please have your child bring in a picture or note telling a member of the staff how much they appreciate them.

Your child doesn’t want to write a note – that’s OK. Have them wear their teacher’s favorite color. It can be their classroom teacher, assistant teacher, favorite office staff, favorite special teacher, etc. Click HERE to see what their favorite color is.

Also Wednesday we will be raffling off the prizes that have been donated. Want to donate something but have no ideas? Click HERE to see the sign up for the raffle gifts. Please contact Jennifer Smith about pick up of raffle items.
New Gates Event:
Storytime at the Silver Unicorn Bookstore

Nature’s Classroom Update

As you may be aware, the sixth grade has been attending a four-day, three-night camping trip through Nature’s Classroom for the past several years. Next year’s sixth grade trip to Nature’s Classroom will take place in the fall. Attending this program early in the school year will allow students and teachers to gain rewarding team building and hands-on learning opportunities, which can then be applied in the classroom setting throughout the rest of the school year. Nature’s Classroom is a residential education program. Dedicated to motivational learning, Nature’s Classroom stimulates children toward learning more about various academic subjects by exploring and doing exciting activities. Through living and learning together, Nature’s Classroom develops community awareness.

If you are a 5th grade parent, please plan on attending the Parent Information Night on Tuesday, May 1st at 6:30 pm in the Gates Cafetorium.

Listed below is information pertinent to the trip:

  • Tentative Dates of the trip: October 23-26, 2018 (Tuesday - Friday)

Hello From the Health Office

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. With good weather and outdoor activities, it's time to start thinking about tick checks and bite prevention. Tick checks consist of checking your body for ticks after being outdoors. The CDC notes that common locations for ticks include:

  • Under the arms
  • In and around the ears
  • Inside belly button
  • Back of the knees
  • In and around the hair
  • Around the waist
  • Between the toes

Use of insect repellent that contains DEET is an important way to prevent tick and mosquito bites. Please keep in mind that these should be applied before school as we can not apply insect repellent at school. For more information, please go to the CDC website .

Enjoy the good weather!
