Hello from the Health Office!

In January, the Health Office had 577 total visits. 403 of these visits were illness related. Please be sure your contact information on Power School is current. It's also important to have a plan for pick up if your child needs to be dismissed for illness. The Health Office is very small and we expect that children will be picked up within an hour of a call.
With February break, families have an opportunity to be active together! Try sledding, hiking, skiing or skating. Or try an indoor pool for some swimming. Being active is an important piece of a healthy lifestyle.
Wishing you all a wonderful vacation!  ❄❄❄

The Third Annual Gates Math Bee

Please join us on Saturday, March 16th, 2019 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm for the Third Annual Gates Math Bee at Gates School. Students will be placed by grade and the test can have a combination of multiple choice and solving questions. Test will be 60-90 minutes long. We will continue our special Math Bee format for the Kindergarteners in the library at the same time! For full details, as well as registration information, please look for the flyer after the Feb break!

If you are interested in helping us pull this event together or have a middle or high schooler that would be interested in helping out with the Math Bee, then please email Syed Irfan .

Online Flyer and Sign-up genius will be up after the break and can be accessed in the next notification!
BoxTops for Education

BoxTops for Education has a deadline of March 1 to send in our box tops for the spring. Please check around your house and send them to school so we can get more money for our school!

Even though the deadline for spring is March 1st we collect them all year so keep clipping!!
MSBA School Building Update

The MSBA School Building Committee met on 1/9/19 and after careful consideration they have selected the Gates school property as the recommended building site for the proposed new school building project. To find out additional information about the building project please check out the district website.
Library News

Are you interested in volunteering in the library?
Please contact Sheila Magovern . We welcome parents to their child's library time whenever possible, but also have some special projects coming up and could use some extra hands in your spare time.

A few upcoming author events:
Mary Pope Osborne (author of the Magic Tree House series) is visiting the Eric Carle museum over February break.

Tui Sutherland (Wings of Fire author, and last year's visiting author) is launching her newest book at Belmont Books on February 28.

The Silver Unicorn Bookstore hosts a monthly Middle Grade Book Club, led by a local author. Participants do not have to read the book in advance, though it's helpful!

The Acton Memorial Library has frequent children's programs, including some over February break.
Healthy Acton Town-Wide Survey

The Town of Acton received a grant to revise and redistribute a survey that was conducted 8 years ago showing what Acton residents considered most important in making Acton a healthier community. Survey results were used to create and improve many programs and services over the past few years. These new survey results will shape future programs. Please take a moment to complete this survey online at
