Bag2School Recycling Day is 2 Weeks Away!

Working together, the Gates PTO and Gates Green Team are organizing a clothing collection with Bag2School on Friday, January 26th. The Bag2School program recycles used clothing and textiles including adult and kids clothes, belts, hats, purses, shoes, boots, sheets and towels. If you are cleaning out your closets to make room for new holiday gift clothing, please consider saving the items. We will be collecting bagged clothes for one week only from January 22-26.

It's also a great way for schools to raise money while helping kids understand what it means to be green. The program teaches students about the importance of recycling and reusing, thereby fostering environmental awareness at a young age. On top of this, it makes a real impact by reducing the amount of textile waste in our landfills.

The Green Team will be distributing postcards for the programs soon and hanging posters around the school at drop off stations.
Dances of the World is Only a Few Weeks Away

Dances of the World is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our multicultural community and will be held on February 2nd from 6:45-8:30 pm in the Gates Cafeteria. All families are invited to come and enjoy the various events representing art forms around the world depicting our rich diversity.

If you would you like to share a dance, musical number, a skit, or martial arts performance, etc. then please review the participation guidelines and sign up .

We are inviting 4th, 5th, or 6th graders to create a trifold of a country and culture. Whether it is your home country, your parents/grandparents country, or just a country you fell in love with. You can create it alone or with friends. Trifold details are available here .

Program Guidelines
  • There will be a $5 per person or $10 per family entry fee, the night of the program.
  • A sign-up sheet for food donation will be provided soon.
  • This is not a drop off event, parents must supervise their kids at all times.

We need lots of volunteers to make this event successful. Please consider signing up to help here .

The "Souper Bowl" Food Drive is Underway

Support Gates School and Eat at Not Your Average Joe's!

We are happy to report that Gates Elementary School was selected for the Not Your Average Cause Program . Not Your Average Joe's chose Gates School because they believe in the value we bring to the community and they want to contribute to our success.

Here is how it works. Every Tuesday during the month of January Gates families are invited to dine (or carry out) at Not Your Average Joe's and they will donate 15% of your total purchase to Gates School. Simply present this certificate to your server on January 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th and verbally state your affiliation. The more Gates Elementary supporters who participate, the more money Not Your Average Joe's will donate!

Hello from the Health Office

We'd like to remind everyone to send children to school with mittens, hats, boots and snow pants. It's also a good idea to have children wear layers to school. Some parts of the school can be very warm, so remind kids to put on and take off layers as needed. The air can be really dry, so we recommend students bring a water bottle to school. If your child has needed to borrow clothing from the Health Office, please be sure to wash the borrowed clothing and send it back to us.

Thank you,
Diane and Tory
