Hello from the Health Office!

As usual for this time of year, we're seeing more illness at the Health Office.  To review whether or not students should stay home with illness, see this link: Attendance and illness

Feeling connected to parents and adults in their lives is important for children's well-being.The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 'device free dinners' as time for families to share ideas and connect with each other. For more information from Common Sense Media, go to  Device free Dinner

If your child has needed to borrow clothing from the Health Office, please be sure to wash the borrowed clothing and send it back to the Health Office.
We are in NEED of clothing sizes 5-7 to loan; Consider donating clothing your child might have outgrown:  Items that are especially desirable:
  • gently used sports pants
  • leggings (elastic waist pants)
  • underwear
  • long sleeve tops.

Thank you!
Diane Spring RN and Victoria Reierson RN
Support Gates School and Eat at Not Your Average Joe's!

We are happy to report that Gates Elementary School was selected for the  Not Your Average Cause Program. Here is how it works. Every Tuesday during the month of January Gates families are invited to dine (or carry out) at Not Your Average Joe's and they will donate 15% of your total purchase to Gates School. Simply present this certificate to your server on January 22d and 29th or just verbally state your affiliation. The more Gates Elementary supporters who participate, the more money Not Your Average Joe's will donate!
It is time for the Gates Culture Showcase!

There are many ways to participate!

Want to perform?
Everybody is welcome to share a dance, musical number, a skit, a poem, or martial arts performance, etc. that represents your culture.
You can sign up to perform by sending an email to Planning Committee with the details below:
  • Name and contact info of performance coordinator
  • Type of performance
  • Name and grades of all performers
  • Details about the performance

Each number must be under 5 min. in length. Dress rehearsal is the week before the showcase. We are still looking for people to play an instrument, sing, or recite a poem from their country of choice.

Like to take a more one on one approach?
You can set up a table/booth space with a tri-fold poster and tell visitors about your country and culture. You can include a small craft, showcase a skill, and bring in items to showcase.
Space is limited. Please email Planning Committee if you are interested by January 23d.
