Bag2School Recycling Day is This Week!

Working together, the Gates PTO and Gates Green Team are organizing a clothing collection with Bag2School on Friday, January 26th. The Bag2School program recycles used clothing and textiles including adult and kids clothes, belts, hats, purses, shoes, boots, sheets and towels. If you are cleaning out your closets to make room for new holiday gift clothing, please consider saving the items. We will be collecting bagged clothes for one week only from January 22-26.

It's also a great way for schools to raise money while helping kids understand what it means to be green. The program teaches students about the importance of recycling and reusing, thereby fostering environmental awareness at a young age. On top of this, it makes a real impact by reducing the amount of textile waste in our landfills.

There are now two drop off stations: one at the front office and one at parent pickup.
Dances of the World is Only a Few Weeks Away

Dances of the World is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our multicultural community and will be held on February 2nd from 6:45-8:30 pm in the Gates Cafeteria. All families are invited to come and enjoy the various events representing art forms around the world depicting our rich diversity.

The "Souper Bowl" Food Drive is Underway

Please Join Us at the Next Gates PTO Meeting

Just a quick reminder that the next Gates PTO meeting is on Monday, January 22nd at 7:30 pm in the Gates Library. These meetings are a great opportunity to hear from other parents, the PTO board, and Principal Newman. You can be the first to hear about what's going on in your child school and learn about PTO sponsored events. Upcoming Family Learning Series with Heather Finn

On February 6, 2018 7-8:30 pm in the RJ Grey Auditorium, Heather Finn, LICSW will be presenting Attunement & Somatic Regulation: A Body Based Approach Toward Increasing Understanding & Resilience Within Your Child. This presentation will build participants understanding of a child's developmental and regulatory needs from a "bottom up" perspective, and explore the role of interpersonal attunement and somatic regulation in helping children cope with and rebound from stress. Specific focus will be placed on helping participants make sense of children's behavioral responses to stress, and to develop skills that can help children regulate their emotions and behaviors more effectively through use of body based interventions and sensory tools. Participants will also be introduced to Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART), a therapeutic intervention designed to explore and expand the repertoire of regulating experiences for children and their caregivers with the aim of nurturing healing, growth and resilience.
