The Harvest Festival is on Friday!
Can you feel that brisk cool air, smell that hot apple cider, and see those colorful fall leaves? The Harvest Festival is here! Come join us this Friday, 11/03/17 from 7:00-9:00 pm for pumpkin decorating, a pie walk, arts and crafts, a bake sale with seasonal treats, fun fall games like donuts on a string, a selfie pumpkin station, fun raffles, and more. You can also bring in any leftover Halloween candy to donate to Operation Gratitude and send our troops a sweet treat.
We will not be able to successfully run crafts, games, and food without more volunteers. We also need families to donate pies for the pie walk. Please consider signing up to help.
The Gates Spelling Bee
We are hosting our second annual Spelling Bee on Saturday, November 18th. Starting in the Gates cafeteria at 9:00 am, the Spelling Bee has both a written and oral round. Students will be divided into two groups: Group 1 will be grades K-3 and Group 2 will be grades 4-6. Please download a copy of the word list for Group 1 and Group 2. Every participant will receive a certificate signed by Principal Newman, and the winners from each group will receive trophies. Flyers have been sent home with registration details.
If you have a middle or high schooler that would be interested in being a pronouncer at the Spelling Bee, please email Irfan Syed  now. Interested in helping us pull this event together?  Reach out to either Irfan Syed  or Kara Bayer  for more information!

Dances of the World Needs a Chair!
We are in desperate need of a chair or co-chair for the Dances of the World or we might not be able to have it this year. This event is scheduled for Friday, February 2nd from 7:00-9:00 pm. This event takes months of planning, coordination, and rehearsals so we would need someone to take over soon. Please contact Naomi Phaneuf if you are interested.

Coming Up: Physical Education Night

Physical Education Night is almost here, we hope to see you November 8, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Gates gymnasium. The goal is to educate the community on the most current practices used in today's elementary physical education and allow your family the opportunity to practice and demonstrate developmentally appropriate activities.

Please remember to wear clothing appropriate for movement. This event is for school-aged children only. We're looking forward to seeing you soon.
If you have any questions please contact Physical Education instructor Jill Reed.

School Building Project: Town Meetings and Informational Forum
The ABRSD community is in the middle of a large-scale school building project and the first phases of an existing conditions study and development of a master plan have been completed. The School Building Committee is in the process of planning for a new twin elementary school, in partnership with the MSBA, to replace some of our aging buildings.
Special town meetings are scheduled in both Acton and Boxborough on December 4, 2017 to vote on funding for a feasibility study for this project. A series of community forums will be held to provide more detailed information about the building project. The Gates informational forum will be held in the Gates cafeteria on Monday, November 13th at 7:00 pm. Please consider coming to both the special town meetings and the Gates informational forum.
Please note there will be babysitting services for parents that want to attend the special town meeting coordinated through Alycen Nigro. More details are coming soon. For more information please visit review the flyer, visit the School Capital/Space Planning website or email

November Gates PTO Meeting
To accommodate the Gates information forum for the School Building Project in the Gates cafeteria, we are starting our PTO meeting at 8:00 pm in the Gates library on Monday, November 13th. We highly encourage parents to attend both the Gates informational forum and the PTO meeting.

Hello From the Health Office
If your family will be participating in Halloween festivities, we have some tips from the CDC to help keep everyone safe:
1) Walk with a trusted adult when trick-or-treating.
2) Use a flashlight to help you see and help others see you.
3) Examine all treats before eating them.
For more safety tips please check out the Halloween Health and Safety Tips on the CDC website.
Be safe and have a great time.
