New Interim Director of Outreach and The Dignity Center Named!
As Mary Martin retires, Rev Kevin Schill has been named Interim Director of Outreach and the Dignity Center.
Many of you would have heard that Mary Martin is retiring to Key West! And we are glad to be able to say we have an Interim Director ready to step in immediately!
Many who know Mary, know that retiring to Key West has been a dream of hers for quite some time. This summer The Dignity Center is hitting three major milestones that made Mary feel like she could step away, and that the work would continue.
The Dignity Center turned 20 years old at the beginning of the summer, and on August 31st will have provided 100,000 pounds of food to the community, in partnership with Second Harvest. We also celebrate the ratio of people seeking advocacy having surpassed the number of people seeking meals! All of this makes Mary feel like there has been some progress and reason to celebrate in the fight to address housing and economic instability.
Kevin Schill will be joining our staff team as Interim Director of Outreach and The Dignity Center beginning September 12, 2022, for three months. Kevin will be stepping in to direct and also spend these next three months accessing The Dignity Center and its relationship with other Hennepin Outreach ministries.
Below is a special message from Mary and an introduction to Kevin.

A personal Message from Mary.
I am proud of the work of The Dignity Center. I am proud that we kept The Dignity Center open through COVID and navigated our way through the myriad of changes in community resourcing. I am proud of the student internship program and the learning experience we can provide. And I am proud that we are finally working with people who want to make the necessary changes towards their stability. All because of every single one of you. It has truly been an incredible journey, and I will always be grateful to have worked with you all.
Although I’m going to miss the students, participants, and volunteers, I look forward to this next phase in life where I get to spend more time making art and cruising the Southernmost Point!
Goodbye and take care,
Mary

Join Us for Worship on Sundays
The Jesus Way Sermon Series
July 24 - September 4
The way of Jesus is a way of love and guided by the holy spirit who lives in the soul. Not by ego, materiality, consumerism, personal validations, and power plays. The way is humility, marginality, disruption when you see injustice, and compassion over propriety. Understanding when to break rules, when to change the rules, and to adhere to them. Trusting that the Holy Spirit will guide you, and recognizing that doesn’t mean it will be easy. It just means the way will be authentic and full of true abundance and love. The way leads to the recognition of God within ourselves, in others, and in creation.
Let's re-examine the texts written for us on the story of Christ and take the time to reflect on our own ways forward. We will take our time to really engage on the journey of discovering, or re-discovering The Jesus Way.

Carlson Hall
with Special events September 12 (7pm Art Gallery)
The HAUMC Fine Arts Team is delighted to welcome an exhibition of The Saint John’s Bible.
Framed reproduction pages of this magnificent masterwork will be on display in Carlson Hall from through Wednesday, September 21.
A full-sized reproduction volume of The Saint John’s Bible: Gospels and Acts will be displayed at various times during this six-week residency.
“This exhibit, initiated by our dear friend Jean Heidenreich, has been in the works for several years,” shared Mark Squire, “but has been postponed by pandemic and the rescheduling of the UMC General Conference.”
Heidenreich, herself a talented artist and calligrapher, was a dynamic force within the Fine Arts Ministry until her death in October 2020. The team is dedicating the exhibit to Jean’s memory.

Good in the Neighborhood!
When Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove spoke with us in early 2021, he suggested that one way HAUMC can champion social justice is to use the power we have to bless what’s happening that we didn’t start. In that spirit, we invite you to bless this organization with:
- your prayers of thanksgiving for their great work
- prayers for future successes
- share the good news of their mission with your friends
- support them with your time, talents, and donations if you’re so moved

August 2022: Every Meal
Fighting Child Hunger
More than 300,000 children in Minnesota live with food insecurity. When these children don’t have access to the free and reduced meal programs at school, they don’t have access to reliable food and the risk of hunger is very real. Every Meal works to fight hunger in our community by filling the gaps in food access that children face during weekends, summers, and extended breaks.
We are a mobile delivery solution, providing food to children right where they are – at school. Our broad network provides 4-5 pounds of substantive, nutritious food directly to the children – at the end of each school week, we put the food into their backpacks for them to take home. Click the links below to learn more about their vital programs.
Call to action:
Westminster has the opportunity to partner with Every Meal and Hall STEM Academy, a Minneapolis school, to address childhood food insecurity.
If you are interested in joining a HAUMC team to ensure school children have food to take home with them every weekend, email socialjustice@haumc.org.

Reflection
Sundays, 15 minutes after Worship

Do you sometimes struggle with religious doubts? Do you ever feel that what you believe is out of step with what you’ve been told to believe?
Or perhaps you feel your faith needs a jump-start to make your spiritual life grow more deeply?

We will gather for 45 minutes after the Sunday morning service to reflect on various religious questions, and, if you want, to share your reflection with the group.
