Making Memories—Davis Hall
One of the Capital Campaign Projects is the renovation of Davis Hall. The building was finished, “Just in time for our January 1960 Annual Meeting,” according to Plymouth’s 1959 Annual Report. Shortly thereafter, the hall was renamed for Dr. David Davis, a longtime beloved pastor at Plymouth during the post war, baby boomer era.
The report went on to thank the general contractor for the “outstanding” job on the new fellowship hall, the sanctuary transept expansion and the Sunday school building, which today is part of our preschool. Today, we lovingly remember Bill Miller, the contractor responsible for this work. Bill and his wife Yolanda were long-time Plymouth members along with their three children, Bobby, Angie and Celeste.
Davis Hall’s architectural design is classic Mid-Century Modern, a style popular from 1945-1969. Her bones are sound, but after 64 years, Davis needs some upgrades. Plans include installation of hurricane windows and doors, renovation to the restrooms and kitchen, and other interior upgrades.
Many of our long-time members fondly remember events in Davis: Christmas parties, father-daughter dances with swirls and curls, potluck dinners served by Jim and Mary Ellis and so much more. Newer members have other fond memories of Davis. No matter how long you’ve been at Plymouth, we invite you to share your memories at memories@plymouthmiami.org. We also invite you to share your ideas about what events you‘d like to see once Davis is renovated.
Along the way, we’ll share your responses as we continue to make memories together.
