Fellowship Dinners - Maundy Thursday, April 17
The Dinner menu is inspired by the foods found during a Passover Seder Dinner. Appropriate take-home containers should be brought if you cannot eat in the Fellowship Hall, and we ask that you sign up in the Gathering Area or online at rcpres.org/dinner if you plan to attend. Suggested $25 per family or $8 per person donation.
Takeout Meals: In our efforts to become an Earth Care Church, the Fellowship Committee asks you to please bring your own container if you would like a takeout meal on Wednesday nights. We thank you for your help with this.
Volunteers are always needed to help with various tasks including set-up, clean-up, serving, check-in,
and transporting leftovers to RAM House. Details and dates at the link below.

Mother's Day Breakfast Volunteers
RCPC is hosting a Mother's Day Breakfast on Sunday May 11 at 9:30 am after a shortened early service and before the 11:00 am Music Ministry Sunday Service. We are looking for "a few good men" to help as we don't want mothers to work this event. Heather will cook, and disposable/compostable tableware will be used because of the short time frame and large group. We need help with setting tables on Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 pm, serving food on Sunday morning, and cleaning up afterwards. Contact Dawn Long at bdljlong@cox.net if you have any questions. Sign up to volunteer below.

Spend an evening with author David Zahl as he introduces his latest book, "The Big Relief: The Urgency of Grace for a Worn-Out World."
Tuesday, April 29 at 6:45 PM at Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke
On Tuesday, April 29 at 6:45 p.m., join author David Zahl as he explores the beauty and depth of God’s grace afresh. He will outline how grace provides deep relief from the accelerating demands that characterize so much of modern life. Throughout the evening, David will draw on personal stories, cultural examples, and the witness of Scripture to bring this message to life. Just don’t forget to bring your sense of humor!
The book launch will take place in the sanctuary of Second Presbyterian Church, located at 214 Mountain Ave, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Admission is free; all are welcome. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
About the Author | David Zahl is the founder and director of Mockingbird Ministries, editor-in-chief of the Mockingbird blog site, and co-host of both The Mockingcast and The Brothers Zahl podcasts. He and his family live in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church. Zahl is the author of "Seculosity: How Career, Parenting, Technology, Food, Politics, and Romance Became Our New Religion and What To Do About It" and "Low Anthropology: The Unlikely Key to a Gracious View of Others (and Yourself)." His next book, "The Big Relief: The Urgency of Grace for a Worn-Out World" comes out in April 2025 from Brazos Press. His writing has been featured in The Washington Post, Christianity Today, and The Guardian, among other venues. Learn more at www.spres.org/book-launch/.

Sermon Series: The Original Tortured Poets
Lent is a time to evaluate our faithfulness, our love, and our commitment to the God who saves. The Prophets of Israel and Judah show us a dogged loyalty to God in the midst of political, social, and religious unrest and disunity. They speak God’s judgment when all is well. They declare God’s hope when all is lost. Their hearts are uniquely tuned to the eternal song of God, which is the power poets possess in every time. They speak, and we do well to listen. So long before Taylor Swift’s, “The Tortured Poets Department,” there were Amos, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah and others living out their identity as the tortured poets speaking for God.

You can place your money in the offering plate or make an online gift here, noting that it is for Mission and making a note for Habitat for Humanity in the text box. Mohammed and Tarteel are so grateful for the donations give to them for their apartment! We were not able to deliver a donated sofa for lack of man/woman power. Another sofa with volunteers is needed. They would also like a juicer or blender and a small freezer.

Hunger Mission Volunteers
With two months left on the school year calendar, we need food packers for the month of May. We pack food in the gathering area each Thursday from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. We are packing 92 bags of food each week to feed children for the weekend. Our hour together is both rewarding and a fun time of fellowship. April Mission Partner: Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build
This Spring RCPC, along with a number of other churches and organizations, will partner with Habitat for Humanity to participate in the 2025 Apostles Build. This home will be built for Dina Aristilde and her children, Lashauna, Kyliyah, King, and Princephilip at 625 Church Avenue SE, Roanoke 24013. Property owners donated several lots in this area to Habitat and one house has already been built.
To qualify for a no-interest 30-year loan from Habitat, Dina is required to complete over a year of homeownership classes and sweat equity hours on other properties as well as her own. Mortgage payments are used to build future Habitat houses.
In lieu of a Wall-Raising Ceremony, an 8 ½ ft. 2x4 was provided for each participating church to decorate and/or place well wishes. The Youth Group decorated RCPC’s 2x4 in their distinctive fashion and added messages. Afterwards, it was placed in the Gathering Area for those who wished to leave their messages of blessing or encouragement. On March 7, the decorated board was taken to the construction site and nailed to a “Wall of Many Colors” as part of a permanent wall in the house. In addition to financial support, we will actively participate in the build by providing construction volunteers for work days on Thursday, April 24 and Saturday, May 3.
All work days will be 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM and daily groups must be 12 volunteers or less. No experience is necessary but all volunteers must be at least 16-years-old. Habitat will provide all required tools and safety equipment, water, coffee and snacks. Volunteers will need to provide their own lunch and a refillable water bottle; work gloves are strongly advised. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy closed-toed shoes like hiking boots.
Volunteers can sign up on line at: tinyurl.com/RCPCHabitat2025
We have a goal this year of a total of 20 different RCPC volunteers participating!
