Saturday Breakfast Fellowship
Saturday, October 17th @ 9am
At our October 17th Breakfast Fellowship meeting, I want to talk about mercy.  Mercy is something which comes up many times in the Bible.  There is talk about how merciful God is and Jesus talks about mercy many times.

The dictionary gives a few definitions of mercy, among them:
  • compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power
  • a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion

I’m listing a few Bible references below.  I urge you to read all of them, especially the ones from Jeremiah, Matthew, and Luke.  I’m also including a link to an  article which talks about mercy from a Christian standpoint and a link to an article which talks about mercy from an Islamic standpoint.

Let’s gather on Zoom on the 17th and see where this discussion takes us.  I’ll send the Zoom information separately.

For more information or to add yourself to the Saturday Breakfast Fellowship email list, please contact Tom Danforth at tomdan4@gmail.com.
Bible passages:
Psalms 111:4
A song praising God for God’s great works, majesty and mercy.

Jeremiah 3:11-14
God commanding Jeremiah to speak to faithless Israel and command them to return.

Matthew 9:10-13
Jesus explaining why he had dinner with tax collectors and sinners.

Luke 6: 32-36
Jesus explaining why it is important to love and do good things for those for whom it is difficult to love and do good things.

1 Timothy 1:12-16
Paul explains to Timothy why he received full acceptance and mercy from Jesus.

Who Deserves Mercy?
While this article was written with a focus on the Catholic faith, it has a very good discussion of mercy, what it is, and who deserves it.

What Does Islam Say About Mercy?

Each year your Christmas Giving Tree (“dove tree”) has generously included gift requests from the Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc., (NHHA) for families in need in Northborough & we have always been ever so grateful.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, NHHA has made significant changes to this year’s Holiday Outreach Program. The decision has been made to give the families a “Gift Card Christmas” by switching to gift cards in lieu of toys & gifts.

We would like to ask you to consider making a monetary donation to NHHA equivalent to the gifts you purchased in the past or any amount you are comfortable with. We will, in turn, purchase $25 gift cards to local stores.

In order to allow families enough time to shop, the cards will be distributed at the Thanksgiving distribution on Saturday, November 21.

Donations can be made on line at https://northboroughhelpinghands.org or mail a check or gift card to Northborough Helping Hands, P.O. Box 383, Northborough, MA 01532 by Sunday, November 1.

Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization and a 501(c)(3) charity.
