All ACPE members are deeply grounded in the soul-wrenching demands that change brings. We know well the dangers and opportunities that inevitably accompany any significant change. So, as I transition out of my role as Director of Community, Practice, and Member Development, I am acutely aware of this transition challenges me and many of you. And I take substantial deepened awareness with me from having served you.

Pam Lazor Accreditation Chair |
I want to start by saying a huge "thank you" to the members of the
Accreditation Commission and also to Marc Medwed and Kimberly Yates in the ACPE office. Throughout 2019 the commission met every week via Zoom to learn, develop and plan for the new accreditation process that will launch on January 1, 2020. Commissioners have also made themselves available to facilitate
Q&A sessions for ACPE educators about the new process, while at the same time continuing to carry out all the usual accreditation business of ACPE. Marc and Kimberly have provided support and guidance every step of the way. It has been a very busy and productive year!

Thank you for making Giving Tuesday a Success!
|
|
Giving Tuesday was an overwhelming success because of you! 100 ACPE members and friends gave $15,400, which unlocked an additional matching donation, giving us a total of over $16,000 raised in one day!
Your gifts will help to expand spiritual care to new spaces, and provide life changing professional development opportunities through the Boisen Scholars Program for ACPE students learning to be with people in life's most vulnerable moments.
In the words of Lisa Taylor, 2019 Boisen Scholar and ACPE Educator Candidate at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services,
"I came to the ACPE Annual Conference feeling overwhelmed and empty about my vocational process. I left feeling peaceful and powerful. Through the ACPE Annual Conference, I regained momentum to finish my ACPE Certification process strong."
Thank you for helping students like Lisa thrive!

The ACPE
office
moved this past weekend between December 6-9, 2019.
The staff planned the move over a weekend to minimize the impact on ACPE's membership. Please be patient while the staff packs and establishes the new office. Email may be the best way to reach
staff members over the next several days.
Our new address is
55 Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard, Suite 835, Atlanta, GA 30308. Phone numbers, emails, and web addresses will remain the same.
Thank you!

ACPE has a long tradition of sending educators to conduct a summer unit of CPE in Hong Kong. In recent years, ACPE has cooperated with Alice Miu Youda Nethersole Medical Center in the Tai Po section of Hong Kong. A number of ACPE members have participated in this program.
The hospital and CPE committee want to reestablish the program next summer. The hospital provides travel, housing, some meals and a stipend. The housing is adjacent to the hospital in the same apartment building where the administrator and several physicians live. The CPE education center has first class space and equipment. Hong Kong has a fine public transportation system that makes being there easy to navigate.
Persons interested in considering this opportunity may contact either
John Moody or
Rodney Seeger, who will gladly share their experiences and answer any questions.

Amy Greene Board Chair |
A number of people over my tenure as Board Chair have asked me (some genuinely and some accusingly) if I have any sympathy for the grief many of our members feel regarding all the changes. I really do. I understand what it feels like to watch an institution you've poured much of your heart, soul and time into become something that seems to be quite different from what you were working toward - as if someone swapped out the blueprints -- or had a different set all along. It is hard to watch things change around us, especially if we perceive them mostly through the lens of what's lost rather than what's gained.

I'm writing ahead of my regularly scheduled monthly column to give an update on the meeting of the Strategic Partners, who met November 20-21, 2019 in Cleveland, OH with La Piana Consulting, to continue to explore ideas to strengthen and formalize our relationships. We have heard from our respective memberships that they need more information. With the assistance of our consultants, we will design a strategy to communicate and engage with the members throughout the ongoing conversations.

Join us for New Accreditation Process Q&A Sessions. The sessions are your opportunity to ask anything about the new process or building your center's accreditation portfolio.
Dates are currently posted through the new year. The sessions are 12:00pm to 1:00pm eastern time on the assigned days. The number of participants for each session is limited to ensure individual questions are addressed.

| One of the delightful effects of posting a weekly poem is how often friends and others share great poetry with us. Here's one that was also posted on my friend Martha Moore-Keish's Facebook page. May the Light break through for all of us in the dark days and long nights: |
Where Light Comes in
Even the empty vessel is full. Light dances on surface and edge and in the eye, splays into rainbows
on the curve of a silver bowl and sinks in shadow along the silk's fold.
We dwell in the midst of what we cannot know or hold or keep.
It breaks into shocking colors, each one a revelation. It shines on the apple's skin and gathers in the cut diamond.
We hammer and polish, hew, and spin, learning what art teaches:
that the best of our making bears witness to what lies beyond the darkened glass, that the things of this world are invitations, that what we take time to see will turn to blessing.
Marilyn Chandler McEntyre, from The Light at the Edge, 2006

Sanghamittā Day - Buddhism Celebrating the anniversary of the arrival of King Asoka's daughter Sanghamittā, who founded an order of nuns in Sri Lanka and carried with her a branch of the original tree under which the historical Buddha found enlightenment (it still survives in the ancient capital of Anuradhapura). This festival occurs on the full moon day in December.

ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education
|
ACPE is the premier, Department of Education-recognized organization that provides the highest quality CPE programs for spiritual care professionals of any faith and in any setting. We do this through a rigorous accreditation and certification process for centers and educators that provide CPE. The depth of our training enables students to realize their full potential to strengthen the spiritual health of people in their care as well as themselves.
ACPE is also the professional home of a growing number of spiritually integrated psychotherapists and pastoral counselors. ACPE supports Psychotherapist and Practitioner members through continuing education programs, networking, and leadership development.
