On Sunday, October 3, 2021, the congregation of Hennepin Avenue UMC will vote on whether to allow Hennepin Avenue UMC clergy to officiate same-sex marriage ceremonies on Hennepin Avenue UMC premises.

To encourage as many members as possible to participate in this important decision, we invite you and all congregational members to share in one of three opportunities to discuss the subject and raise questions or concerns. Sanctuary Choir Tune-Up Events

The Sanctuary Choir is holding several "Tune Up Nights" during the month of August in anticipation of resuming a regular ministry schedule this fall. Guests considering choir membership are most welcome!

The Sanctuary has been visited by the sounds of beautiful singing, as well as the happy sounds of reunion and fellowship. This summer, following strict masking, distancing, vaccination, and closely monitored times of air exchange within the space, members of the Sanctuary Choir are coming together for Tune Up Nights.

“We’re spending time to reacquaint ourselves with beautiful singing technique, as well as working on some of the repertoire which will be part of our fall ministry,” reports Mark Squire, director of the ensemble, “but equally important is the in-person fellowship which is a hallmark of this musical and spiritual family.”

Singers are supplied with special masks which are designed to allow the participants to breath and sing with minimal impingement, and rehearsals are held in the open spaces of the sanctuary.

The choir throughout the pandemic has stayed in touch back regular Zoom fellowship gatherings and emails, and did a couple of distanced recordings as well as recording the hymns for last Sunday’s Traditional Easter Service. Closely following the developments of the COVID virus and variants (including guidance from the CDC and MN State Health Department), members of the Sanctuary Choir are eager to resume the ministry activity they so love and bless so many.

“This is a perfect time for others in our community with choir experience to come and TUNE UP with the Sanctuary Choir,” Squire continued, “Contact me at the church at mark@haumc.org for upcoming dates and times and explore choir membership!” Regular rehearsals (continuing with healthy protocols) are hoped to resume in September.

The mountains we face might be obstacles to overcome, but they can also be opportunities for us to take the next step forward. With God none of these mountains are impossible for us to move. This is a series about experiencing the power of faith and trust in God. As we begin to navigate our way forward, how can we connect with God’s power?

Masking Comes Back to Worship!

With the rise of the Delta variant and in alignment with recently updated guidance from the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin Avenue UMC has decided to reinstate a mask requirement for the building, effective immediately. This applies to groups using the building and for Sunday services. Please remember to mask up this Sunday if you are attending in-person worship.
