Recently I enjoyed a center visit where a creative educator discussed his mid-unit evaluation processes. One that particularly caught my attention was the practice that each student prepares a picture collage rather than written words in order to express their experience and feedback to others in the group. I liked his description of the outcomes he perceived for his students, their relationships, and their learning process.
As I reflected on what I would write this month, a collage of experiences emerged. I am aware of several pictures I have to share with you this month. So here are some reflections on AAPC, Annual Meeting, Tech News, and Deaths, and as is important for collages, The Thread.

Do you recognize these folks or the event in the photo above? Send us a note at webmaster@acpe.edu.
Thank you for your responses to last week's photo. We received the following response from ACPE Certified Educator Rod Seeger:
"~30 members of the then Pacific Region doing their presentation at the Annual Meeting which was celebrating the 75th anniversary.
The group members presented a "rap" description describing the Pacific Region to the music of Dr. Dre. The sun glasses were intended to help make us look "cool" while doing the rap song."
ACPE Certified Educator Carrie Buckner also added:
"This is from the Pacific Region - I recognize MANY people (and I am in the back row)
Left to right: Wendell Stangeland, Patricia Wilson-Cone, Sat Kartar Khalsa-Ramey, Beth Boyd, George Fitzgerald, Rod Seeger (in tuxedo), Janet Hanson, Carrie Buckner, Susan Turley, Susan Scott, Birte Beuck
FUN times!!"

Cecelia Walker, Certification Chair |
I hope everyone is doing well, staying warm, and enjoying winter! Your Certification Commission has been hard at work since we began our terms in January. In our most recent conversation, we focused on two main topics: CEC Evaluations and pre-admission participation in peer groups.
CEC Evaluations This past January, we implemented a significant change in our certification process that eliminated structured units of Certified Educator CPE.

| We have worked to include a variety of poems here that touch on themes of love, loss, death and meaning. This poem offers a perspective that might fall into a "collateral damage" category, the pain experienced by loved ones who may not be directly tied to a divorce: |

Poem for My Former Niece
by Amie Whittemore
Soon it will hurt less
to remember your hair
in my hands, softest foxtails.
Or your voice as you kicked
your feet in the bath.
Your five-year-old insights, zinnia-bright.
Being your aunt is winning
summer, warm rain, and
a tap-dancing unicorn.
It's chocolate cake for breakfast
and a tea party with panda bears--
please, draw that for me.
That's what I would have asked
before the divorce. Now,
in this new land, I treat you
like a unicorn. Sugar cubes
in my hand, soft whistle
in my throat.
There's no word
for "former niece."
I'd rather eat
500 pickles than invent
such a term.
I hope you laugh
about those pickles.
Rare egg, trust your shine.
Know I tend a bouquet for you.

Saturday, March 16 * Ghambar Hamaspathmaedem, Fravardegan, or Muktad - Zoroastrianism (continues until March 20) A celebration of the creation of human beings and a commemoration of souls who have died. Sunday, March 17 * Saint Patrick's Day - Christianity (Western churches) A commemoration of the missionary bishop who evangelized Ireland in the fifth century C.E.
* Orthodox Sunday - Christianity (Eastern churches) A celebration of the restoration of icons, which had been banned from Byzantine churches in the seventh century. The Christian empress Theodora ordered them restored in 843 C.E.
