The Arts Council of Central Louisiana presents: Lightwire Theater - The Adventures of Tortoise & Hare: The Next Gen
Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center
1202 3rd St., Alexandria, LA
Thursday, March 2 2023
Time: 7:00 PM
The Arts Council of Central Louisiana is proud to have Lightwire Theater returning to downtown Alexandria with The Adventures of Tortoise & Hare: The Next Gen.
We begin with Aesop’s classic fable of The Tortoise and the Hare but continue the story which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern-day distractions. Smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences. The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race, where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line?
With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new brilliant light.
Tickets: $25 for adults
$17 for seniors (65+)
$10 for students/children (3 to 18)
$60 for a family (2 adults and 2 children).
Tickets will be available online at Louisiana-arts.org, by calling 318-484-4475, or at the door.

Tom Peyton Memorial Arts Festival: Call for Entries!
Art Deadline: Tuesday, February 28, 2023
The Annual Arts Festival of First United Methodist Church, Alexandria, Louisiana, was established in 1967 to encourage use and understanding of the arts as a means of healthy expression. The First Annual Festival presented the first juried art competition in Central Louisiana.
For more than 50 years, the Festival has offered a variety of exhibits as well as programs of music, film, literature and drama. The Festival was renamed in 1980 to honor the memory of The Rev. Tom Peyton, a former associate minister whose ministry to the entire community’s arts and educational efforts was especially significant. An endowment in Peyton’s memory contributes to the Festival’s budget, which is otherwise supported by patrons’ gifts and grants. The Festival enjoys the guidance and services of the church’s staff and the use of its facilities. The core of the Festival remains the juried art exhibit.
