Rhonda Daniels Annual Campaign Chair |
For over a decade, I have benefited from the transformative, experiential education that is Clinical Pastoral Education. CPE has afforded me the opportunity to serve as an ACPE Certified Educator at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. I have seen CPE improve the spiritual health of people and communities, beginning with me.
As a wife, mother, and grandmother, I give to the Foundation for ACPE because I am committed to educating professional chaplains, community spiritual leaders, and lay-leaders to serve our hurting world. My giving affords support for students to continue their vocational journeys through the Boisen Scholars Program, as well as expanding the reach of ACPE through the Innovative Program Awards.
Supporting ACPE makes me feel like I am a part of an ALIVE experience - a movement to make the world a better place. Will you join me?
You can help your Community of Practice win the 2019 Friendly Giving Competition! The CoPs with the highest giving participation will win support towards their 2020 budgets!

This year Spiritual Care Week is October 20-26, 2019. Spiritual Care Week/Pastoral Care Week has been hosted by the
COMISS Network: The Network on Ministry in Specialized Settings since October 1985. It gives opportunities for organizations and institutions of all kinds and types to recognize the spiritual caregivers in their midst and the ministry which the caregivers provide. The theme this year is "Hospitality: Cultivating Space."
The website provides theme interpretation, event resources, proclamations and a press release. Please visit the site to download this year's logo to create posters, banners and other promotional materials. The logo can also be included in email signatures and webpages to support the celebration and spiritual caregivers.

Marc Medwed Associate Executive Director |
ACPE is a recognized accreditor of the U.S. Department of Education, to accredit programs of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Certified Educator CPE. There are two primary types of accredited centers: 1) An Institution Sponsored or Free Standing Center that offers accreditation to a single entity and 2) A System Center Accreditation (with independent component sites) that offers multi-campus institutions a single accreditation, administered by the administrative System Center (host) and extends to each independent component site. Although component sites are connected by a central accreditation, each site must meet the defined criteria as if it were an independently accredited center. The System Center Accreditation is designed to be a cost-effective means for a multi-campus institution to offer CPE programs at multiple sites.

I overheard a rabbi recently say that we are entering what she thinks of as "marathon season," a time of back-to-back-to-back Jewish holidays, including the highest of holy days and the flood of family and friends. It is also the beginning of autumn this week, though in the southeast we have yet to feel anything like an autumn breeze. Marge Piercy offers a lovely reflection on this time of year, one that invites introspection in the spirit of the holy days:
|
The late year
by Marge Piercy
I like Rosh Hashonah late,
when the leaves are half burnt
umber and scarlet, when sunset
marks the horizon with slow fire
and the black silhouettes
of migrating birds perch
on the wires davening.
I like Rosh Hashonah late
when all living are counting
their days toward death
or sleep or the putting by
of what will sustain them-
when the cold whose tendrils
translucent as a jellyfish
and with a hidden sting
just brush our faces
at twilight. The threat
of frost, a premonition
a warning, a whisper
whose words we cannot
yet decipher but will.
I repent better in the waning
season when the blood
runs swiftly and all creatures
look keenly about them
for quickening danger.
Then I study the rockface
of my life, its granite pitted
and pocked and pickaxed
eroded, discolored by sun
and wind and rain-
my rock emerging
from the veil of greenery
to be mapped, to be
examined, to be judged.

While many will go deep with faithful celebrations, others will mourn the loss of "Friends" on Netflix. "Friends" first aired on September 22, 1994 and ran for ten seasons. For those who want to say goodbye with a fitting tribute, this YouTube artist took the theme song and set it in a minor key. For what it's worth: "Friends" theme song.
