New Hampshire Downloadable Books
Open Virtually 24/7
The library's subscription to NH Downloadable Books provides patrons access to very expensive content, in a very cost-effective manner. This would be impossible for the library to do alone, and without the wide selection of available titles. Patrons can download e-books, audiobooks, and magazines to their computer, tablet, smartphone or Kindle. Download the Libby for Overdrive app from your device’s App Store.
The Libby app will be used and linked directly to your library card. Be aware that if you are not able to download an item, it may be because you have an overdue book on your account,
or your card has expired.

What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community, or something else, you can find your joy at the Dunbarton Public Library
National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.
We invite everyone to join the celebration! Whether you're a longtime patron, new to town, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library provides free Wi-Fi, genealogy and local history. Special programs like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and weekly story times ensure that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler.
The goal is to read 1,000 books before your little one starts kindergarten- and yes you can repeat books! We know that all kids have favorites! If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year. By the time they start kindergarten, it's possible to have read 1,825 books together!
Not only will your child benefit from having a larger vocabulary, and more interest in reading, but studies have shown that reading to a child daily is an early indicator of academic success. The bonding time while you read to/with a child is possibly one of the most wonderful benefits!
Do you have questions? Need more logs?
Please call the library!

New England's Colonial Meetinghouses and Their Impact on American Society
Presenter: Paul Wainwright
Tuesday, April 21, 2026, 6:30 PM,
Upper Town Hall
New England's colonial meetinghouses embody an important yet little-known chapter in American history. Built mostly with tax money, they served as both places of worship and places for town meetings, and were the centers of life in colonial New England communities. Using photographs of the few surviving "mint condition" meetinghouses as illustrations, Paul Wainwright tells the story of the society that built and used them, and the lasting impact they have had on American culture.

Analogies, Similes and Metaphors:
You Have the Right Brain for This
Thursday, April 30, 2026
10:30 AM, Upper Town Hall
Presented by Jo Hendry
Rote memory is all well and good, but is it fun? This is a class for people who enjoy playing with words and ideas and a chance to challenge your mind in creative and imaginative ways. Hands-on, minds-on activities will develop our higher thinking skills and help us to identify word relationships and imagery. Associations lead to further thought, and provide us with improved memory. Remember: hidden in the word “simile” is SMILE! Class Limit: 16
