November 7, 2022
With every season comes the earth’s reminder that we live in an ever-changing and evolving world. The landscape looks different as the leaves fall and plants go dormant. As the days get shorter I feel this propensity to go inward.

As the fall leadership meetings get underway in Atlanta, ACPE continues its journey of going inward. There continues to be good work happening as we move into new phases of our strategic planning process and anti-bias work. I want to share the board report I submitted for our ACPE Board meeting in mid-November:
On October 26, 2022, at 3 pm eastern, ACPE emailed ballots to eligible voters via SimplyVoting for its annual election for the association's board, commissions, and committees. Polls will close at 3 pm eastern on November 9, 2022.

This workshop explores circular symbols that frequently appear in art, architecture, and rituals such as labyrinth walks. Through a multi-cultural slide presentation, participants will learn the psycho/spiritual symbolism of circles, and how and why they form the matrix of mandalas. Contemporary psychological concepts about mandalas will be introduced through the work of C. G. Jung, a pioneering Swiss psychiatrist, and American art therapist, Joan Kellogg. Experiential exercises, didactic presentations, and group discussions will clarify the use of mandalas for self-care, contemplation, and memorialization.

We are writing to update you on ACPE’s re-recognition process with the US Department of Education (USDoE). As you know, ACPE has been recognized as the only accreditor of CPE programs since 1969 by the USDoE and we undergo a review process every five years. The process for this round began with submitting our petition in September 2020 and culminated this past summer.

The ACPE Accreditation Commission has faced challenges in meeting some of the requirements set forth by the USDoE. Each of these challenges necessitated significant communication with the various analysts assigned to review our petition.

Weekly Highlights
This Week's Reflection
At the time of the writing, war continues to rage in Ukraine, but hints of peace may find their way into Ethiopia after years of civil slaughter. Brazil begins the transition of power with anxious eyes watching every step. China’s intentions for Taiwan keep many worried throughout the Asia-Pacific, and many in our own country are still stunned by the attack on Paul Pelosi. Denise Levertov longed for peace. Maybe we can join her through this poem:

Making Peace
By Denise Levertov

A voice from the dark called out,
       ‘The poets must give us
imagination of peace, to oust the intense, familiar
imagination of disaster. Peace, not only
the absence of war.’
                  But peace, like a poem,
is not there ahead of itself,
can’t be imagined before it is made,
can’t be known except
in the words of its making,
grammar of justice,
syntax of mutual aid.
                    A feeling towards it,
dimly sensing a rhythm, is all we have
until we begin to utter its metaphors,
learning them as we speak.
A line of peace might appear
if we restructured the sentence our lives are making,
revoked its reaffirmation of profit and power,
questioned our needs, allowed
long pauses . . .
A cadence of peace might balance its weight
on that different fulcrum; peace, a presence,
an energy field more intense than war,
might pulse then,
stanza by stanza into the world,
each act of living
one of its words, each word
a vibration of light—facets
of the forming crystal.
