The beginning of David Whyte's poem, Just Beyond Yourself, seems to describe ever so accurately the journey of Carolyn Barksdale and the evolution of her program at RC Freedom Ministries:
Just beyond yourself.
It's where you need to be.
Half a step into self-forgetting; and the rest restored by what you'll meet.
There is a road always beckoning.

| Want to keep expanding your LGBTQI competency? |
Did you know that ACPE's
Code of Ethics now includes in its nondiscrimination clause not just sexual orientation but also gender identity and gender expression (Standard 101.2)? LGBTQI persons are increasingly visible in many CPE settings. Some ACPE Certified Educators are eager to learn more about supervising LGBTQI students, or helping students learn to offer spiritual care to LGBTQI persons. Many educators are eager for consultation on supervising CPE groups containing both LGBTQI and straight/gender conforming students, some of whom come from religious traditions that exclude LGBTQI persons from full participation in religious life.
Members of the LGBTQI Community of Practice are available as resources to you! All of us are learning, and we are glad to offer ourselves as conversation partners at this growing edge of our practice. Consider reaching out to:

Thank you to everyone who attended the workshop on Building Your Center's Portfolio at the annual conference. I hope that you found it meaningful and helpful as you tell your center's story. The PowerPoint of the workshop, as well as some additional materials have been uploaded to SharePoint. We will also be recording a modified version of the workshop for those who were not able to attend, as, while the slides are good, the commentary is better!

| Updates to the Manual: Use of Clinical Materials Consent Form |
ACPE has implemented a new Use of Clinical Materials Consent Form that is now required to be signed by all students prior to formal admission to a CPE program and at the start of each subsequent unit. The Use of Clinical Materials Consent Form is required for all students in all units of CPE, not just those that are facilitated by a CEC. The Use of Clinical Materials Consent Form also informs students that their materials, with personal information redacted, may be used in the Certification process, in the Peer Review process, as part of a center's Accreditation Portfolio, and for ACPE approved research studies.
For more information on this update, as well as other manual updates, and to download the new form, please see the Updates to the Manuals page.

Some poems cut through language and thought to the deepest places of our being. This is one such poem. Written for a friend contemplating suicide, Galway Kinnell offers this beautiful and heart-wrenchingly brief meditation:
|
WAIT by Galway Kinnell
Wait, for now. Distrust everything, if you have to. But trust the hours. Haven't they carried you everywhere, up to now? Personal events will become interesting again. Hair will become interesting. Pain will become interesting. Buds that open out of season will become lovely again. Second-hand gloves will become lovely again, their memories are what give them the need for other hands. And the desolation of lovers is the same: that enormous emptiness carved out of such tiny beings as we are asks to be filled; the need for the new love is faithfulness to the old.
Wait. Don't go too early. You're tired. But everyone's tired. But no one is tired enough. Only wait a while and listen. Music of hair, Music of pain, music of looms weaving all our loves again. Be there to hear it, it will be the only time, most of all to hear, the flute of your whole existence, rehearsed by the sorrows, play itself into total exhaustion.
