In a world where people of color are routinely marginalized and dehumanized, what we need right now is prayer.
In a world where privilege and power reign supreme over love and compassion to maintain the status-quo - what we need right now is to speak up.
In a world where children of color learn they are black before they can learn to read well - what we need right now is to educate ourselves.
In a world where elders are priced out of their communities to make way for the new and better - what we need right now is more equity and compassion.
In a world where one person can take another's life while they remain free, both because of the color of their skin - what we need right now is real justice.
In a world where fear and hate are used to maintain division, distance, and disparities in health, employment, and ownership of businesses and homes - what we need right now is love.
In a world where the sit-in, sit-out, and sit-down, as well as the stand-up, stand-for, and stand-with, have been repeatedly seen fighting the same war - what we need is a genuine transformation at the core.

We understand that this is a special time because of COVID-19. So in advance we wish to thank you for your time. We are hoping that you will contribute to a study aimed to better understand the role of healthcare chaplains in assisting with advance care planning and end of life discussions with patients and families.
The proposed study aims to describe ACP practices among board certified healthcare chaplains in order to inform policy and practice discussions on the role and standards for high quality ACP facilitated by chaplains. This study will the largest on-line survey with board certified healthcare chaplains in the U.S. on advance care planning and end of life care. As a healthcare chaplain, we'd appreciate your help by completing an
on-line survey. Your survey responses will help us to better understand the role of healthcare chaplains in advance care planning. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and your responses will be confidential.
Should you have any questions about the research or survey (or would like to receive the
results from the study), you can contact the Principal Investigator,
Dr. Jung Kwak.

In the midst of these uncertain times, many of us are hungry for information - information that can inform our decisions, help us process what we're experiencing, and connect us with those around us.
The Professional Well-Being Committee is working to gather such resources and make them available to our members. Here you will find articles, videos, and reflections that will bolster our resilience and strengthen our practice in the days and weeks ahead.
If you or your Community of Practice has a resource that you would like to submit to share with our members,

What has been happening this week, has been happening this year, this decade, this century, this half-millenium. We all must put our shoulders to the task of stopping the wholesale slaughter of African American people.
In the short time since ACPE educators, chaplains, psychotherapists, and staff
named our grief and anger
over the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, we are faced with the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd as a result of police violence.

The 2020 volume of Reflective Practice: Formation and Supervision in Ministry
marks the fortieth anniversary of this unique journal, including its previous iteration as
the Journal of Supervision and Training in Ministry.
In this volume, an esteemed and diverse set of authors explore the implications for formation, supervision and theological education in general embedded in the new forms and models of ministry that are emerging among us. The volume begins with a smorgasbord of a few of the many new models of ministry, and of new forms of CPE in particular.
Section 2 explores how CPE might change, as its moves increasingly around the world and beyond its formative mainline Protestant culture? Section 3 explores the future of theological education in the seminaries, particularly in the United States. A rich collection of authors explores the themes, issues and challenges that is and will impact theological education in his or her religious tradition. Section 4 is a wonderful collection of essays from our colleagues in the Association for Theological Field Education, around the theme, "Excellence in Supervision." These five concise, up-to-date and readable essays can serve as a primer for the latest and best of thinking about supervision in a theological/clinical setting.
The volume ends with two ACPE Theory Paper of the Year Essays, ten book reviews on recent publications in our field, and a tribute to our ACPE colleague and friend, Peter Yuichi Clark.

Thank you to all educator who responded to our survey about summer units. Over the past few weeks, we have had an increase in phone calls from students searching for programs that are having summer units, so we are happy to share the list of centers that responded "yes" to our survey. We hope that this will assist students looking for CPE units this summer. As this information was provided to us by the centers, we suggest that prior to sending an application that you contact the center to confirm their plans for the summer unit. Center contact information may be found in our
online directory on the website.
For ACPE Certified Educators, we know that things are changing rapidly, and often on a daily basis, so if your center's plans have changed and you want to be added to the list or need to be removed, please email
Marc Medwed, Associate Executive Director.
We appreciate the work you are doing, now more than ever, and wish you all good health.

Our Research Team wanted to give an update about the CPE & Emotional Intelligence (EI) research study to the ACPE community. Little did we know the magnitude and effects of the pandemic when we announced our research plans in a
webinar in February.
Since many CPE centers expressed interest in being part of this study, our team considered how to be good stewards of this exciting opportunity to partner with you for a nation-wide study advancing our field. We remain committed to this project while fully aware that you are focused on navigating uncertainties in your CPE programs amid the COVID-19 crisis. Therefore, we have made adjustments to the timeline and have extended the opportunity to join the project.

While he was writing of a different time and different circumstances, Kwame Dawes' words inform much of what is known today. They name so much, and they offer hope. May they be a part of our way forward from this time:
Requiem By Kwame Dawes
I sing requiem for the dead, caught in that mercantilistic madness. We have not built lasting monuments of severe stone facing the sea, the watery tomb, so I call these songs shrines of remembrance where faithful descendants may stand and watch the smoke curl into the sky in memory of those devoured by the cold Atlantic. In every blues I hear riding the dank swamp I see the bones picked clean in the belly of the implacable sea. Do not tell me it is not right to lament, do not tell me it is tired. If we don't, who will recall in requiem the scattering of my tribe? In every reggae chant stepping proud against Babylon I hear a blue note of lament, sweet requiem for the countless dead, skanking feet among shell, coral, rainbow adze, webbed feet, making as if to lift, soar, fly into new days.

Before coming to ACPE, I taught a course in the theory and practices of nonviolence. It informs many of the values and commitments today's social movements. While many of the images we have seen in recent days have been of violence, Steve Pavey, a photojournalist, captures images of the beauty and the passion that are the heart and soul of so many social movements. Take a look (you may even recognize some folks):
